Did great work with Benn, but Degale's last couple of paydays were thanks to Haymon, not Mendy.

Survivor? He managed Benn and briefly DeGale, what else has he done in the last few decades?

From what I understand, he actually had the chance and opportunities to get really big, but messed up through being crooked and a bull sh1tter. As well as being more interested in his image and being flash......

What innovations did he bring to boxing to warrant being called an innovative promoter?

Was he ever a promoter anyway? No record of him promoting a single show on boxrec.

Was he involved with those Essex gangsters? You know they made a movie about the shooting?

Not sure mate can deffo remember reading he'd gone to a jail a few times and the impression i got was that he was a bit shady.
Everyone deserves a second chance though and he seems to be doing ok now so good luck to him.

He wore some sharp, glittery suits and Nigel seemed willing to tolerate him for a short while....but beyond that, I am struggling to see the pioneering genius who revolutionized the British fight game. Perhaps he's keeping the best till last and Ambrose is just a slow burner

A pretty hefty jail term sunshine if u need facts.
Youve answered your own question
He had money and was being called the british don king when he was with benn.he really got benn and himself huge exposure and paydays to boot....he was in tight with the wbo...he was an advisor to honeyghan in his first reign...than benn.....than it all went wrong....and now 20 years later he is guiding another mw world champ and back in the limelight
That kind of comeback in your late 50s deserves respect

I think the comparisons with Don King can be limited to the fact that both of them are black, other than that I can't see what else there is.
Haymon's guiding DeGale, if Mendy's still involved anymore, and he wasn't working with DeGale for that long anyway, he's been relegated to a hanger on.
Two fighters, which is stretching it anyway, in over 20 years isn't a lot, there's plenty of others that have done a lot more.

He had the "Black Pack", including Paul Ince, Linford Christie and a few others. He played heavily on the race card. Was supposed to be a very clever man but inherently crooked!

Nice one mickey.
The thing that stands out for me about these guys. Linford,benn,honeyghan,ince.....they all had incredible pride in themselves and representing their country at a time when there was veiled racism. In the media
Reports about linfords lunchbox rather than his olympic medal.
Reports about honeyghans 5 children with 4 women.
Ambrose with his confidence and flamboyance and yuppie image tied them all in nicely
