Thanks HBO/Duva

So, according to Michel, HBO and Duva insisted that the Stevenson/Kovalev fight be an HBO PPV.
They refused to do the same split structure from Floyd/Manny.
Stevenson is a much bigger live draw.
The fight would have to be in Montreal.
But HBO must get the whole pot?
So, no fight.

there was a lot more to split with floyd v manny, more than enough to go around for everyone.
also gate amounts to a small fraction of ppv revenues. i still think it will happen.

Stevenson doesn't have a contract with Showtime, and HBO invested in him before he ran away. So, what exactly is wrong with him fighting on HBO ? The only reason is Haymon sh!t.

Are you so stupid that you are actually siding in a negotiation that doesn't affect you in any way.
Split it down the middle and get in the fornicating ring.
Common sense tells you when one side is making all the demands, they are being unfair.

And if you really want to do the whole negotiation thing,
Stevenson pulled a bitch move first.
Kovalev pulled the same bitch move back.
Good, you're even.
Now, split the money and make the f'ing fight.

Asking for Showtime to be involved was obviously a ploy to get out of the fight. They knew HBO would balk at that. There's absolutely no reason for them to share the PPV broadcast when they are the only one with an exclusive contract with one of the fighters. Neither of Stevenson's last two fights have been on Showtime and he hasn't fought on the network since 2014. Thanks again Al Haymon.

You are the one who is stupid. We are taking sides all the time. There is no "demandS" from Kovalev, just ONE condition due to his exclusive contract with HBO. Stevenson is 38, and he should agree to that condition and get a career high payday. Other alternatives for the pimp is to keep fighting nohopers or get beaten by Beterbiev or another rising star.

From what i heard Stevenson agreed to fight on regular HBO but Kovalev clan wanted the PPV so GYM ask for the split PPV

I agree it should not be a split . I think it s only a Gym/Haymon tactics to avoid Kovalev and telle the world he refuses the fight

People's Champ wrote:In the history of PPV there have been two split PPV's: Lewis/Tyson and Mayweather/Pacquiao. Asking for split PPV in this fight was an unreasonable request. This fight shouldn't even be a PPV in the US. In Canada, of course but not in the US. It's not any bigger than Kovalev/Pascal 1 in the states. Pascal is probably a slightly bigger name than Stevenson.
The reason for that to be a PPV is amount of money Stevenson wants, and then Kovalev would have to get the same amount.

the title of the thread should be thanks haymon. is anyone realy trying to claim
the guy who beat/hospitalized teenage girls in order to force them into prostitution
is the one trying to make the toughest fights? we all know who is scared here.
maybe stevenson can see if he can get a convincing win over bika or fonfara in
the rematches or schedule another killer like the other two of his last 4.

Personal feelings against Stevenson ... probably from men who have bought prostitutes before or frequent seedy strip clubs.
Stevenson ducked Kovalev first.
The next two have been in Kovalev's hands.
This fight shouldn't be PPV, so Stevenson agreed to appear on HBO.
Stevenson will be providing the sold out venue and the best environment for the fight.
Similar to GGG, HBO is overhyping Kovalev's money making power.
HBO/Duva trying to make this fight PPV was their duck and unreasonable demand.
Why PPV? This fight wouldn't do 300K buys.
So, let's support the people who continue to put barriers (PPV) between fights and fans.
Talk your shit about Haymon, if Kovalev took this fight with him, it would be on broadcast TV.

The reason for PPV is Stevenson's greed. Kovalev would fight him for 1 million. Actually, after a few shots, he would fight the "piece of sh!t" for free.

How much is Stevenson asking for?
It's easy to assume HBO is the good guy because they portray themselves in the traditional "good guy" manner.
This PPV would do 250K or less. Let's just say 200K. That'll be 12M. The fight will do a good gate in Montreal.
Sounds like enough to split, even if you wanted to do a PPV.

Yet some in the boxing industry ask why HBO is reluctant to entertain bidding against Showtime for the highest license fee (instead of designating the bout a pay-per-view).
“Both networks want the fight to happen. Each network has an attachment to their specific guy. We should let both networks bid on it; the highest bidder gets the fight,” Showtime’s Espinoza said.
“Showtime’s willing to take that risk. It’s in the best interests of the fighters and promoters. It maximizes the TV license money. Failing that, an easy way to solve it is a joint pay-per-view. There are multiple ways to solve this problem. It’s not that complicated.
I guess it's about what you believe. I think this is the solution to all fight negotiations.

Your math is way off.
a good gate for this would gross $1-2mil. it doesn't even compare to an average ppv net.
it's like a fraction. hbo and showtime aren't going to split an average ppv, either.

Look, I know some folks think Stevenson ducked Kovalev when he went to Showtime
but the situation was much, much, much more complicated than that.
On the other hand, Duva made Kovalev look like a straight biotch (and we know Sergei isnt)
when she chickened out of the purse bid.
If this latest thing about the insistence on an HBO PPV is true, then that is more BS from Duva.
Bottom line is, contract or no, her job is to make the most money for her fighter (or it is supposed
to be, although we all know promoters really are in business to make the most for themselves).
The answer is to let the fight happen where the most money can be made and if that isn't HBO.
then let Haymon give HBO some quid pro quo with some of his other fighters (like a Danny Jacobs for example)

what is the whole premise of this thread? maybe adonis can keep picking on the tommy karpencys and
teenage girls reluctant to engage in prostitution. maybe the big rubber match with darnell boone?
the last thing this guy wants is to get wrecked by kovalev. this is the one and ONLY reason why this
fight isn't happening.

Gotta disagree, sweet jesus.
The defection to showtime wasn't about avoiding Sergei, it was about getting paid more money.
And Duva backed out the purse bid the last time the fight was close.
I don't think Adonis fears Kovalev- even if some think he should.
And, it is clear that HBO and Duva are what is holding the fight up right now.

i beg to differ, sir. hbo and duva are where the money is and where the fight gets made

is stevenson obliged to fight on showtime or not? what is the exact reason he can't

Do you really think that's true, or is it how you'd like to imagine him.
If it were the case, wouldn't have Kovalev told HBO and Duva to wait before signing an exclusive contract.
I know it can't be made to seem I'm against Kovalev. He's my p4p #1 and I preach it all the time.
However, I think that HBO and Duva have been very wrong in the last 2 negotiations.
Come on man, Kovalev/Duva/HBO publicly dropped out of a purse bid. One of the last fair things in the sport.
Whoever is willing to pay the most gets the fight.
The same option has been offered again, but for some reason people here think that Kovalev's loyalty to HBO is somehow more important than Stevenson's loyalty to Haymon.

HBO PPV is DEFINITELY NOT where the money is.
If that was so, Duva doesn't run out on the purse bid.
She knew they'd lose it then.
And they'd still lose it now.
That is why HBO is going hard with the Ward fight as the one "everyone" supposedly wants to see.
