Why would be vacate? I mean even if he legitimately thought he couldn't win (which he doesn't) that's too much money to turn down. He didn't make much fighting guys like Molina.

What are Deontay's other big money options? The Fury-Wlad II winner? Haye? Joshua-Martin winner? I suppose he could wait around for those opponents, all of whom I'd give high chances of beating him, but it's hardly a given that he'd actually land bouts with them and he could well lose prior to that. About $5m to fight a dangerous yet beatable opponent (contrary to what some say, he absolutely can defeat Pov) is a deal he should take in my opinion, even if I'm looking at it from the perspective of cautiously matching him.

If he drops the belt and doesn't quickly line something up with an elite opponent it's going to look bad, and it will just make him an even larger target for criticism.

There have been rumors that Al Haymon is getting low on money.

Nice to see it's happening in Russia (unless Wilder vacates) because Povetkin is more likely to receive fair officiating there (although that wasn't the case against Klitschko, who should have been DQed for excessive holding and repeatedly pushing Povetkin down).

7.1 million is a hell of a lot more as I expected, I expected Povetkin to win for about 2 million or so.


I still wouldn't even be surprised if Povetkin will fight in America anyway.

Officiating won't be as big of an issue in this fight. Wilder doesn't hold a lot certainly nowhere even near as much as Wlad did, and I expect regardless of who wins be it Wilder or Povetkin. It ain't going to the scorecards.

I bet Wilder wishes Charles Martin hadn't just signed to fight Joshua.

I don't know in what world a fighter who isn't even financially set yet (I'm guessing) turns down such a payday, but whatever. We'll see if he does.

I don't want him to vacate. Unless Wilder fights like Wlad, it should be an exciting fight to watch.

Agreed. I don't think he will, though. He's still in that honeymoon stage of brash, unabashed self confidence.

I'd much rather see the fight than see Wilder vacate most definitely. Even fighting and losing is more respectable than bowing out without a fight.

I'm sure haymon is going to try to increase povetkins share to get him to have it in the US.

He's going to fight. There comes a time when you have too. Unless he has a line on the winner of either upcoming title fight. Even then, 4.5 million is a lot.

If Povetkin was willing to come to America it never would have made it to a purse bid.
They knew they would win the purse bid so they waited.

Being in Russia isn't going to make officiating a problem but Wilder should have a body guard assigned to his drug test and have a video recording of that bottle for every second of the day.
Plus have two samples.......one to be tested in Russia, one to be tested at a WADA accredited facility elsewhere in Europe if necessary.

Those are not rumors that is a fact. He has played his hand of a substantial amount of money very poorly.
