Hi, my dad kenneth Rees was a boxer in the day and boxed at tv ringside in
the year 1962, he would of been 17 at the time. My mum said he went by the
name Kevin Kirk. If anyone has any information no matter how big or small
it may be, also photos. (anything at all)It would be much appreciated. I
got told he helped out at the Glen Roy boxing gym when it first opened?
When he left boxing went left to go to vitamin, My dad past away in 1993. I
hope what I have put helps with any information at all.
Im trying to find out about my dad in his younger years
THANKS HEAPS

Renee i have reposted your request in the Australian section of the forum. The people who may have the info you are after tend to frequent that section of the website. I hope you dont give up and check up on your threads every now and again as some time can pass between updates. It may also be worth contacting the Australian National Boxing Hall Of Fame (ANBHOF)... possibly someone there could help you with your enquiries.... best of luck in finding information on your father.

This shortcut contains details of Kevin Kirk's professional boxing record:

http://boxrec.com/boxer/126704

From it you will see he fought from 1967 to 1969. He had a total of 12 fights. Winning 10. All of his fights were in Victoria and most of them at Festival Hall where TV Ringside was televised from on Channel 7.

If you click on the box with the tick in it against each of Kevin's fights it gives the details of who else fought that same night Kevin did. Here are a couple of examples:

On this night Kevin fought the great Johnny Famechon fought in the main event : http://boxrec.com/show/68092

On this night Kevin fought the great Lionel Rose fought in the main event : http://boxrec.com/show/82092

The guys who fought on the same nights as Kevin did back in the late 60s are probably good sources of information. Note that many have either passed away or aren't getting any younger. So some of their memories may not be all that flash.

Your dad would have preceded Lester and Keith Ellis as far as when he boxed competitively himself. But he may have trained where they did later on. There is still a boxing gym in Glenroy. It would be worth chasing them up. Would suggest you Google it and get a phone number. Darryl Ford is the guy who runs it. I think he has been there for many years. So he may be able to assist.
