Will posters please stop bringing this topic up on a boxing forum.

It appears to be the fashionable thing to call Horse these days, in fact having searched it, the trend dates back to the previous decade

I don't want to sound like I'm jumping to Horses defence here, because I'm not, generally I find him ok, quite knowledgable but his posting style winds me up on here sometimes too. That's really got nothing to do with it.

If you find calling someone Autistic amusing or clever, it isn't.
If you think it somehow wins the argument, you're wrong.

If you genuinely wholeheartedly believe Horse, or any other poster, suffers from autism based on his posting style and you are pointing this out in a genuine effort to help him here's 2 things to consider.
1. If you are not trained in the field of autism or other mental/social disorders, you're probably best keeping your opinions to yourself
2. If he (or any other poster) is autistic, chances are he doesn't need some berk pointing it out in an internet forum, chances are he's acutely aware and recieving help or treatment on a daily basis.

If you don't like what someone on here says or how they say it. Do what I do and just call them an arse.

If the chap is autistic or has other mental challenges, I apologise. My son has a condition and challenges and I should have been more thoughtful.

Someone (I think it might have been me actually) recently posted a link in Off Topic to an online test which indicates whether a person is on the autistic spectrum or not.

I apparently am not, but can't answer for any other posters.

That's slightly different to calling someone you don't agree with Autistic. Of course.

Also, I remember a perfectly respectful discussion on here regards the Smith brothers and the fact they have a family member with the condition, which is why they have in emblazoned on their shorts to raise awareness. Of course discussing the matter is no problem.

I guess this is aimed at me, considering i've just pulled him on this?!

I however was not aware that other posters had 'called' it him before and the fact it goes back to the previous decade.

There are not many forums out there which would accept one poster causing so much friction for such a length of time without taking action or even just having a quiet word. Just like off the internet, not many people would put up with such a confrontational and antagonist attitude.

I mean what is actually worse, that he registers high on ASD which explains his behaviour or that he enjoys riling people up, being rude and offensive to gain attention on an internet boxing forum?

I much prefer it when he's just offering up his boxing knowledge and engaging in intelligent boxing discussions than aiming to derail threads with obnoxious and rude posts aimed at individuals. If it's been going so long though and annoying so many people then unfortunately it seems the board and it's members just have to put up with it, which is a shame.

My partners sister has aspergers so I don't think autism is funny or amusing. This is a curious post. Horse can be a bit of a pain in the arse but he's a good poster and his monthly p4p list is always a good read.

I wouldn't make that stuff up mate. I've mentioned it before in long ago threads. I chose that insult, because I've had plenty of them thrown at me. I have no issue with autism or anyone on the spectrum at all. It's Horse I have an issue with.

I would like to say in my defence, that people use the word 'retard' all the time, a word I despise, which is a horrible slang word for someone with a learning disability, but I don't see anyone being brought to task for that. I shouldn't have used the word lunatic, I apologize.

As I said, if his attitude online and argumentative posting style annoy you there are lots of things you could call him.
Boxrec's a great forum, it doesn't punish you for using profanity, it replaces it with eff, poo and pudenda.

But go have a think about it, if he does register high on an autism spectrum a) do you think his posting style is forgivable? b) do you think it's appropriate calling him on it.

If he doesn't? Just call him a pudendum. I'm sure he's heard worse.

As I said, not disputing it. I just find it surprising someone in your chosen profession would ever use that term as an insult, or more importantly give someone a hard time that you think may actually suffer from the condition.

You've made the point with retard, a word in more common use these days (I'm perhaps going to make a hypocrite of myself here , but i've used it with out thinking, knowing I shouldn't, which is regretful. But that, as you point out is largely down to the common usage of it, you can become a bit blase about it, not that that makes it any more acceptable). I don't see the difference to what is being done with the term autism, my issue is that it is now being directed, repeatedly at one person.
If you want to talk about bullying behaviour, I'm sure you will see parallels there.

It's not just the use of the word, it's becoming a trend, something that popping up regularly, becoming a popular insult on here.

As I've said above. There's plenty you can call Horse.
Be a tad more creative, profanity is wonderfully diverse, there's an almost inexhausible list to choose from.
