Just reposting this from the BOTP section. I've only just seen it and it got next to no responses, but i hope there are a few here who may occasionally still pass by here who may be able to help this person or atleast point them in the right direction.....
Hi, my dad kenneth Rees was a boxer in the day and boxed at tv ringside in
the year 1962, he would of been 17 at the time. My mum said he went by the
name Kevin Kirk. If anyone has any information no matter how big or small

got told he helped out at the Glen Roy boxing gym when it first opened?
When he left boxing went left to go to vitamin, My dad past away in 1993. I

Im trying to find out about my dad in his younger years

Regarding Kevin Kirk,
This shortcut contains details of Kevin Kirk's professional boxing record:
http://boxrec.com/boxer/126704
From it you will see he fought from 1967 to 1969. He had a total of 12 fights. Winning 10. All of his fights were in Victoria and most of them at Festival Hall where TV Ringside was televised from on Channel 7.
If you click on the box with the tick in it against each of Kevin's fights it gives the details of who else fought that same night Kevin did. Here are a couple of examples:
On this night Kevin fought the great Johnny Famechon fought in the main event :

On this night Kevin fought the great Lionel Rose fought in the main event :

The guys who fought on the same nights as Kevin did back in the late 60s are probably good sources of information. Note that many have either passed away or aren't getting any younger. So some of their memories may not be all that flash.
Your dad would have preceded Lester and Keith Ellis as far as when he boxed competitively himself. But he may have trained where they did later on. There is still a boxing gym in Glenroy. It would be worth chasing them up. Would suggest you Google it and get a phone number. Darryl Ford is the guy who runs it. I think he has been there for many years. So he may be able to assist.

Hi, my name is Debbie Kirk. Kenny Rees boxed under the name Kevin Kirk at Saunders Bros gym in Glenroy. Kevin Kirk (my father, dec 2005), would strap the the hands of most of the boys at the gym and Kenny was at our house along with a few other young boxers quite a lot when I was a kid. I will have a look to see if I have any photos of him. There is a facebook page called " I grew up in Glenroy Victoria 3046 during the 1950's to 1980's. There are a few people on there that might remember Kenny as well. Vaughan Houston, also a boxer at Saunders Bros gym, circa 1969 I think, springs to mind and he and Kenny definitely knew each other.
