Lucas Browne's win has to rate very highly on the all time Australian list. Where do you place it??

Grantlee Kiesa has it 3rd behind Lionel Rose beating Fighting Harada in Japan and Jimmy Carruthers beating Vic Toweel in St Africa.

Its rating and significance are two quite different things, but can also be compatible. I dont want to diminish Browne's victory in any way, so i will keep it as simple as i wouldnt have it as high as Grantlee. But it is a very significant and inspiring performance by Browne.... he can now be mentioned along side the best that have come from this country.

The most prestigious title of combat sports ever is boxing heavyweight champion of the world. His accomplishment should be up there, if it's not, it's because it's belittled by Fury having the other belt. It's bloody hard thing to achieve, especially when you got knocked down before you got it.

As foxdog makes mention, the heavy weight world title is the greatest crown so in that Lucas Browne has certainly made a place for himself in the top ratings, he is certainly the most accomplished heavyweight Australia has produced and to top it off he has achieved the rare feat of traveling to a hostile environment and beaten the champion in their backyard, in front of their home crowd, thrusting him up there with the likes of Rose, Harding, Curruthers, Famo, Geale, Soliman et al.

I am not detracting from Lucas Browne,s achievments but Curruthers, Rose, and Famechon were stand alone champions, our later champs shared their titles, Lucas,s effort is the best thing that has happened to Aussie boxingfor years, I only hope I can live to see a world heavy title shot here,, I would love to see Browne and Fury, and I would back Browne a win would shut the knockers up,way back in the past Dave Sands went over to England to fight Dick Turpin , in those days our fighters went after the poms , the Empire title was a stepping stone to bigger things he stopped Turpin in 1 round, it was big news for a long time, Sands and Villeman, a win for Sands, and Sands and OLsen, they were fights that stirred the nation, I just hope Lucas can carry the flag up high , he has a share of the most coveted title in boxing

All the Best

Much as I love Johnny Famechon he was not a "stand alone" champion.
Johnny was WBC Champion while Raul Rojas was WBA champion. Granted Johnny had a harder road to travel to win his title.

Without trying to detract from Lucas Browne's terrific and historic win, I would put Fammos win over Legra above it.

Good old Grantlee lets just say he has made a habit out of overrating fighter's he knows on a personal basis to put Browne achievement along side Carruthers/Rose/Famechon who were the REAL WORLD CHAMPION'S at the time is a JOKE Big Daddy needs to beat the REAL CHAMPION who is Fury then his REAL WORLD TITLE would be above every other fighter's achievement in this country get REAL KIEZA who do you think your fooling.

When ranking Lucas Browne's performance I guess it depends how much weighting you apply to him having achieved something none of our other heavyweights have ever done, and I'd say it has played a big part in Grantlee Kiesa ranking it the 3rd best win ever by an Aussie fighter.
I think it was an absolutely sensational win by Lucas and in rating a few other Australian wins of the past ahead of it I am not in any way setting out to detract from it.
But wins I would put ahead of Lucas' are >>>
Rose vs Harada
Carruthers vs Toweel
Tszyu vs Judah
Harding vs Andries
Famechon vs Legra
Darchinyan vs Mijares
I also rank Fenech's performance against Nelson (which was adjudged a draw) as one of the most outstanding performances ever by an Australian boxer)
So I would rate Lucas' performance easily top 10 by an Australian, and in terms of wins about 7th all time.

I certainly agree here, and I like @Patron's mention of Dave Sands, I think, on one hand, that Lucas Browne's win is comparable to Dave Sands' achievements. Conversely, one could view it as Browne is a heavyweight so trumps virtually all and he won a title from the title holder while traveling to the title holder's home country.
I do like the Dave Sands comparison.

Keep in mind that Chagaev had only lost 2 fights & his only prior KO loss was at the hands of Wlad Klitschko. Browne has now one the first of a group of fights to establish the real WBA Champion. Look it up on the WBA website.

i only pointed out that Johnny was not the undisputed featherweight champion.

Tend to agree here. He beat a hall of fame boxer in Legra and lost to a hall of famer in Saldivar.
The guy who Lucas beat is not in that league but just the same the Heavyweight division is where all the attention is at. I rate his career so far up with jeff harding and a bit below rose/curruthers/fammo

Why because these 3 WBA belt's that the WBA sanction i only regard the SUPER version as the REAL belt,Look if you be nice to me i'll go along with this
and pretend that its the REAL title but you gotta say santa clause is REAL,And i do thing Big Daddy performance was the best by a Aussie Heavyweight
ever in a BIG fight.

Wlad was the REAL champion he lost it to Fury so guess what he is still the REAL champion,Not Chagaev or Browne in the day's before this situation was created [ 3 WBA world title belt's so they can get 3 sanctioning fee's ]by Gilberto Mendoza and his cronies so they can fill up their bank account's Browne would be the number 1 contender thats the truth.

Thanks for the correction Brute, I was relying on my memory which is getting a bit clouded, I thought Lucas
would have had a bigger reception, at the airport. then again the the one,s that mean the most were there,
did any of the boxing officials welcome him home?he has given the sport the shot it needs, I just hope he can capitilise on the title and get the rewards he deserves,,All The Best

Legra was 109-5-4 when he met Fammo and had won his previous 54 fights!
Fammo went to the UK a 6-1 underdog. But it didn't stop him coming home with Legra's WBC belt.
