Who'd you have fancied if these two very decent technicians had fought? It could have been possible at the latter end of Starling's career when McGirt had moved up from light-welter (89-90.)

I think marlon always turned it on inhis biggest fights andxwouldcwin on points .by 1989 he was a very formidable champ

Only just seen this, cracking hypothetical, not sure I have seen this before.
This would indeed be a real tussle of technicians. Definitely not a barnburner though, mcgirt preferring to counter anyway and Mookies shell difficult to penetrate, i probably like a Starling S/D type fight too

Mcgirt is one of my all time favorites and I met him numerous times - we are both from Long Island.
He was a terrific fighter with an eye-popping final record of 73-6 and a two division champion. But in my opinion Starling would be too strong for him to handle. Starling was very strong and physical in addition to being a world class boxer.
The naturally bigger man wins this fight in my opinion.

I think Starling would do just enough to deserve the decision. Would probably be a pretty good fight.
