Browne's management may look past Oquendo - Haye? Fury? Wilder? Joshua?

Brendan Bourke, part of Lucas Browne's management team, indicates they are looking at the possibility of Browne facing a bigger name for his first defense than Fres Oquendo. It might not be possible for Browne to face someone else for his next fight, but they are going to explore the possibility.

“I know Ricky is already talking to Fres Oquendo and he is the mandatory but that is not going to be a big money fight,” said Bourke

“Browne’s purse probably wouldn’t even be as big as he got to fight in Chechnya and he’s now the champ.

''Hatton Promotions will want to get the biggest pay days possible. It’s a delicate situation. But he can get the big fights in boxing now with Joshua, David Haye, Tyson Fury and Deontay Wilder.”

“We will know in the next 1-2 weeks what the next movement will be. And remember, Oquendo is still returning from major shoulder surgery – he may not be fit to fight,” said Bourke.

My understanding is Oquendo is Browne's mandatory and it is not just the wish of the WBA that that's the case. There has been a legal finding handed down to that extent as well.

There is a rematch clause that says Tyson Fury fights Wlad again. So provided Wlad doesn't retire, that will keep Fury busy next up and should Fury win that the WBA plan on having him fight the winner of Ortiz vs Ustinov. So provided Wlad doesn't retire, Tyson Fury is off limits to Browne next up.

Joshua fights IBF titleholder Martin in early April. With the winner scheduled to fight the winner of Parker vs Takam. So Joshua has a full dance card for the immediate future too.

Wilder, the WBC titleholder, is fresh from stopping Szpilka in mid January.

Haye, the cashcow without a title, is 1 round into his comeback having squashed de Mori like a fly in mid January.

Quendo injured. We probably won't see Browne back in the ring till June or July.

Oquendo's shoulder was bad enough it required surgery. Not sure how far down the track to recovery he is. But Browne's eyes could do with some recovery time too.

I believe all the title holders have mandatory fights, Like Wilder vs Povetkin. Maybe Browne can have a none title fight?.

I think the only thing that could facilitate that is if Oquendo's shoulder isn't ready to go within a reasonable amount of time. Otherwise it is Browne vs Oquendo according to Browne's people.

Hate won't be interested in fighting Browne if his title is not on the line.

lol.
Didn't notice the typo before.
Meant Haye....as in David Haye, not Hate. Don't know of a boxer named Hate but I'm sure there is one out there.

Easy enough typo. The T and Y keys are right next to each other on the keyboard.

Neither Hater nor Nosworth fought again after their 1939 draw. I wonder if World War II got in the way?

With maybe no title to his name, Browne could go on to fight Haye later this year. I'm sure if he gets striped he will still have a decent WBA ranking for the fight to be worthy.
