Was chatting to Robin yesterday about Tillerman's performance in the Ottke fight. Went online and videos of the fight have been completley erased, seemingly. Anyone know of any links to the fight? Or the highlights of the shit reffing.

That was a bad a reffing as you will ever see. I seem to remember Reid getting several warnings for hitting ottke and getting no credit for a legit knockdown

Maybe its because Ottke was that embarrassed by the decision he has actually paid Youtube not to play it.

Most bent fight I ever saw, the appointment of Tillerman absolutely stank too, he was appointed despite never having previously refereed a world title fight, and in fact had little experience as a professional ref, having mainly worked in amateur fights. Blatantly brought in to protect Ottke from defeat in his last fight. He also looked like a womble.

They probably expected Reid to be a fairly easy defence, but they weren't taking any chances, Reid was docked a point for hitting Ottke with a legal shot, the ref helped Ottke up from a blatant knockdown, and Reid was on the verge of getting DQ'd for hitting his opponent.

Worst of all were the scorecards. Inexplicably, Reid who did virtually nothing for the last 4 rounds, for fear of getting DQ'd and losing his purse (this is what his trainer told me) was given those rounds, and yet the rounds where he was most active, all went to Ottke.

I sat next to Roger Tilleman at a show in Dublin once. He was over judging a European title fight. Lovely big guy.

Reid won that fight. I thought Otke lost a few of his fights. The refereering in this fight was shameful. Absolutely shameful.

Sadly though I feel the refereeing / judges have "added" to Reid's performance a bit.... it was a very close fight. Been a while since I saw it, but I think I scored it for Ottke, based on the referee's ruling (e.g. counting the point deduction and not counting the KD).

Neither were exactly brilliant that night.

Poor Reid, really got shafted, remember watching it way back then. Loved his corn rows though!

i thought reid looked very good until tillerman shut him down.
do you not think reid let ottke back into the fight in the later stages simply because the referee just didnt allow robin to fight?

One of the most inept reffing performances I can remember!

Inept my arse.

Tillerman was clearly instructed to do everything in his power to prevent Reid winning - he completely stopped him from working. Short of gloving up and sticking one on Reid himself, he did everything he could.

I wish I still had the piece I did on this at the time, I got some very interesting information about the cosy relationship between Ottke's promoters and the WBC I think it was. Talk of stays at holiday villas and 50,000 quid watches being given to the official who appointed Tillerman, who up until that time had barely reffed a professional fight. He was primarily a judge, and refereed amateur bouts - so why was he given such a high profile gig.

Reid was winning easily the first 6 rounds - but was way down on all the cards, after that he barely threw a shot as he was continually being warned for hitting Ottke with perfectly legal shots.

Didn't Reid talk about pressing charges? I would have thought the evidence of corruption was overwhelming enough to make it worthwhile.

Awful fight, Reid was fighting Ottke and the ref that night, must be the worst refereeing I've seen.

There was no hard evidence of the corruption, I was told this at the time by someone who I think had previously been a WBC judge. It was a long time ago, so not sure exactly. They emailed me off the back of the piece I wrote.

What about the utterly nonsensical scorecards and the wining and dining and baffling infringements? I;m no lawyer, but all of that surely could have conspired to make a strong case.

Whats crazy is even with Tillermans blatent bias, Reid only lost by a point or so. Had that knockdown in the 6th (was it) been scored he wouldve won. How a ref cant score that as a knockdown is crazy.

Reid told me had he won that a rematch with Calzaghe had already been agreed

Yes, the scorecards absolutely stank. The second half of the fight, where Reid barely did anything for fear of being DQ'd, he won more rounds that the first 6!
