i would like to see what smokin joe would do to prime bowe, lennox lewis, vitali, wlad,
fury, wilder, etc. sometimes i think nostalgia distorts things. there just weren't big
guys who could box and move like that back then. foreman isn't even big for today's
top heavies. most of their opponents back then would be cruisers today, and blown
up light heavies fighting cruiser at that. i'd be interested to see frazier even get in
with briggs, valuev, charles martin, and these good sized titlists who can't move or
box that well. i've seen people on here talk about sonny liston mangling bowe and
lewis and the big modern heavies, and peope talking about jersey joe walcott and
marciano beating the top modern guys. i appreciate guys for what they did in their
own eras. ali was bigger than boxing, so that rivalry was part of history. to think he
had years of his prime taken before that fight. ali was an icon. you can't take those
fights out of the era any more than you can take jesse owens out of the berlin olympics.

like i said, foreman is not even a big guy compared to them, and the comeback foreman was
a much more efficient smarter fighter. i'm not so sure the mid 20's foreman could beat the
early 40's foreman. even the young crude foreman was too much for frazier. say all you want
about the slow pace, fighting a strong 6'6" guy who moves and smothers and can knock your
head off with one shot, but almost all of frazier's opponents would not even be big cruisers
today. it's really just gleeful nostalgia talking about how if some 6' guy from 40 years ago
or more got ahold of these 6'9" bums today, bla bla, but unless you have tried to get near
a guy twice your size who can move and decapitate you, it's not reality. the buster douglas
who showed up for tyson in tokyo would have taken out frazier. i'm not trying to disparage
the guy. he's a hall of famer. it's like taking an nfl offensive lineman of nba power forward
from the 60's/70's and putting them in the nba today. we can all talk about how lebron and
kobe wouldn't hold a candle to tommy heinson but get serious. different eras. maybe at the
lighter weights you can make some comparisons, but not at heavy.

Massive fight but i didnt think it was the great,it was decent but Frazier was a clear winner

Behold the movers Valuev and Briggs. Wlad wouldn't even get in the ring with Joe. The oh so complete Corrie Sanders had such a hard time with that beautiful moving machine who could decapitate him. Lmao.

I didn't think Frazier was a clear winner. He was beat up much worse than Ali was, and almost died afterwards I read. It was the best version of Frazier vs a past his best but still good Ali. The 3.5 years off that Ali had showed in the 70's part of his career.

you wouldn't need to have been more than 10 to have a decent 1st hand memory of it.
i probably listened to it from the crib, practicing my speed bag technique on the mobile
hanging over me. they obviously replayed it many times over the years, then came classic
sports network on cable, then youtube. i would say most people, even non-boxing followers,
up until this generation of millenials have watched highlights of it at the very least.
it's scary talking to millenials, sometimes. they think a song that came out last year is
old and ronald reagan is one of the guys on mount rushmore, if they've ever even heard
of mount rushmore or reagan.

No, that was the first fight.

Frazier was in hospital for almost a month after fight 1.

He almost had a CVA & had to be on medication to keep his blood pressure down.
