British Lightweights

I think we have a lot of fighters in this division that could all beat each other, excluding Terry Flanagan and maybe Anthony Crolla...
Terry Flanagan, Anthony Crolla, Ricky Burns (I know he is fighting at super-lightweight, but lets put him in this), Derry Mathews, Luke Campbell, Tommy Coyle and Scott Cardle.
I think Terry is the clear #1 with Crolla #2 - but the rest is hard I think...
In a few years you could even throw in Ohara Davies...
So how would you rank them?

I'm not sold on Cardle, not one bit. He was in a tough fight with Craig Evans (naturally smaller) and I thought he got a generous stoppage against Dodd.
Up and coming, OHara Davies is blasting everybody out, think he's ready to step it up. Can't discount Zelfa Barrett and Joe Costello, who is returning on the May 13th show in Bolton after a lengthy injury.

Talent wise Campbell is the best but he showed last time out he can be bullied and out hustled. Flanagan is a tidy boxer and looks to have the bit between his teeth just now. I reckon it'll take something special to stop him. I would like to see him in with Linares.

Currently I would go.
Flanaghan
Crolla
Burns
Matthews
Campbell
Coyle
Cardle
I would say top 4 are pretty close - Saturday could change everything. I would say Crolla is possibly in better form than Flanaghan, so a drab win for Flanaghan might place mean he moves down to 2.
If Mathews pulls of the upset, I would have him above Crolla at #1 cos stylewise he might just have Crolla's number. So I would probably just swap 1 and 4.
Perhaps I am being harsh on Cardle, just not sold at all on him.... its a good fight between him and Coyle and one that is hard to call.
Agree Campbell is the talent, but he cannot be ranked higher than that ATM based on his loss.
Feels weird doing this without Mitchell there.

If Mathews gets done on Saturday conclusively - e.g. early stoppage then I would swap them based on their performances against Coyle.
If it is fairly close - e.g. 116-112 Flanagan, then I would probably keep it as it is until Campbell steps up.

Yeah seems a fair way on judging them, but if they both got in the ring tomorrow I would say Campbell beats Matthews.

Crolla will outbox Barraso hopefully set up a Manchester derby.

in 12-18 months id put Lewis Ritson in with any of these guys, I think he will be the future of the lightweight division

Surely your looking to step Lewis forward mate?? Scott Cardle is definitely beatable I'm sure that fight would be there. Lightweight division is strong but Flanagan is above and beyond. I would say number 2 is actually Liam Walsh hearing that he and Flanagan are next what a fight that is. Genuine 50/50 fight..
As for Ricky he will be a 3 weight world champion no one can say he doesn't get a bit of luck Di Rococo should be routine for Ricky would be good if Ricky wins and defends against the winner of Limond v nurse

Ritson is a future star. British title, next stop European lightweight belt. Only 14 fights in and looking like a star.

What did you think of Ritson?
I only just got to see the fight and I was very impressed. For a 14 fight 25 year old, he is pretty decent.

I can't stand the wee prick so hopefully Ritson gets him outta there if they fight.
