You're right. Although he still makes me laugh. Did you see him gatecrashing Jim McDonell's gym and calling out chunky? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jvrSk6jLQYY

He's comedy gold. He has a punchers chance against most guys but that's about it. He should fight that Dave Allen fella at the weekend since Towers pulled out. See what he's got.

Good idea, I haven't seen this Dave Allen guy - if he's young and hungry he might too big a threat for Briggs. I think we all know he's just hoping to get a big fight and a payday without taking any risks.

Like you say, he's got a puncher's chance but only if someone gets seriously sloppy.

Think that Dave Allen is fighting Jason Gavern now mate. Next up for Briggs will either be Haye on May 21st or the Burns bill in Glasgow the week after buy the looks of it. The sad thing is that if Briggs does get what he wants and manages to get a fight with one of the top guys then he's going to be hurt and quite bad. The pasting he took from Vitali was uncomfortable to watch and went on several rounds too long.

Not sure that sort of one sided beating could get dished out in the uk, refs are more eager to jump in, especially as Briggs would be the away fighter. I quite enjoy the humour Briggs bring to the sport on the social media, but I'm under no illusions that his days as a contender are done. Good luck to the guy.

He entertains me to be honest and I am a proper old school boxing fan and semi self professed historian. And I am not going to begrudge a man trying to get a final massive payday. If we are right and he cannot get past a fringe guy, then I think he is bang on avoiding that and trying to cash out with the big one rather than risking tripping on the way. Common sense if you are him and he is not here to fill your criteria but follow his own agenda.

I think someone else said it in another thread but they were right Briggs probably doesn't even have the speed to have a punchers chance its been 5 and a half years since Vitali (who by the way was the same age as him) made Briggs look a 100 years old his level of opposition since his return is of such a low standard it isn't even worth talking about as funny and as entertaining as his videos are he has zero relevance to the current heavyweight scene and any sort of big fight he gets against any sort of a "name" over here is just going to be denying them what could of been a proper test as it will obviously be on a big show given Briggs media profile!

The ref was British, IJ-L.

I wouldnt mind him doing a bit of punditry. He seems are really sound bloke. Ive no issue with him doing the odd exhibition style fight vs lower tier fighters.

Dont be such a stick in the mud OP

He's ranked higher as david Haye, and I'm quite confident he will fight higher competition whenever he got the chance.

Imo, that fight completely ruined IJL as a ref. He now seems to be trying to make up for letting Briggs take a prolonged beating by stopping fights at the first sign of a boxer being in trouble.

IJL has his own set of rules that no one seems to be able to decipher.

He wants a big money fight straight away, without taking risks with smaller fights against rated, dangerous opponents and he thinks shouting is going to get him there. But Eddie is to tricky for a chum like Shannon Briggs. He said clearly if he wants big money first he needs to take few meaningful fights.

I reckon Briggs vs Joshua might well happen. We heard what Eddie said about for the fight to be huge, Briggs needs to be active.... but he also said that being a world champion is too soon for Joshua - he will need to learn as he is world champion.

Briggs vs Joshua might just be a sort of "homecoming" fight that he will need.... Yes, Hearn is correct it is not a "Wembley" fight unless Briggs can do something - but if Joshua vs Whyte can do PPV and fill the O2, Joshua vs Briggs can do the same.

You're probably right. All the shite munchers would by a ticket to Joshua v DeMori probably. The casual mob don't care who the opponent is. Half the time they won't know who the opponent is no matter who they are.

I think Briggs will probably end up taking the Haye fight. I hope the guy gets his pay day he's chasing and packs it in.

The reason why Briggs doesn't fight someone real to earn his shot is because he knows he can't beat nobody real anymore. Talking his way into a big fight is his only hope, and one more loss will be the nail in the coffin of his career. The Vitali loss should've already been that.

He refers to the WBU + Lineal title he won when he beat Foreman and the WBO title when he beat Lyakhovich.

The Foreman fight was one of the strangest decisions I have seen..... While Axel Schultz was robbed maybe a case could be made for Alex Stewart and even Lou Savarese - Foreman was well ontop vs Briggs.

Briggs might actually be a decent fight for Joshua as in a decent learning fight. I think Briggs, like a Tony Thompson, will have enough about them to go rounds - without ever being a threat.

I think Briggs might be the type of learning fight that Hearn expected Johnson to bring. Whilst he was once considered "chinny", Briggs has shown to be a fighter capable of surviving and going the distance.

Always been rediculously over rated, but can take a hell of a punch and even though he seems to be pretty spent as an ambitious force after 3 minutes..... he is a decent punch bag.
