Yes for ATG, not sure about the top 100. Right on the cusp.

Definite ATG, in fact, I'd pick him over Roberto Duran at lightweight. Duran couldn't handle the speed.

any day of the week. he didn't shy away of
leaving his comfort zone and some of his
losses are due to this rare attitude.

having said that his stupidity against tito was

I don't know what to do with ODLH. What are his amazing victories? Whitaker was unravelling. Chavez old and scar-riddled. Ike Quartey? Vargas?

Not sure how well his stamina fares in a 15-rounder either. And there's a lot of cosmetics on his record. Belting various B-class guys to manufacture a 'multi-weight world champion' status. Great heart in the ring though, and I did enjoy his career. I don't know.

So De lay hoya was shite but Cooney was the best thing since sliced bread?

At least he had much more speed than the Hands of Stone.

I wouldn't say that. Maybe a slight edge in handspeed, Duran's prime foot speed was off the charts.

I voted no. He was a great fighter. Deserved close decisions over Tito and Mosely.

I just remember his early career. Boiled down to the bone so he could decimate smaller opponents. Meant he could have all these belts. And this strategy became the blueprint for all the top prospects that came after him.

Yes. Didn't swerve anyone and for a while in the late nineties was arguably the best clean fighter on the planet.

He was a great fighter, usually came up just short against his best opponents, but still has some really great wins, and a great career. You get the sense at Welterweight he could've competed with most anybody, but I also figure quite a few of the greats would've gotten the best of him more often than he'd get the best of them.

Top 100? I think you could make the argument he's top 25.

He was in the Olympics at 132 so I fail to se how spending the early portion of his career between 130 and 135 is boiling down. Was he supposed to gain 10lbs overnight?

But when you start talking about guys around the 100 mark are we still really discussing an ATG?
At which point does it stop being ATG?

I mean I rank Larry war machine Olubamiwo at 12,342 all time. Technically puts him on my ATG list, just really really low down it.

I mean when we are talking of the thousands and thousands of pro boxers in the last century alone.
I think atg should be classified as top 100

I love this post.

I post a top 100 list a couple of years ago. He is certainly in the top 100. Rating him around#75 is fair. This is more about people not liking him than anything else.
