How many would you do

Following on from the thread of who people faced as anamateur I thought it be worth asking how many tickets you think you'd realistically sell if you were a pro boxer. I mean if your boxing on a local leisure centre show against maybe a journeyman consistently 3-4 times a year.

First fight a good 200+ but I'm under no illusion that would soon drop to around 50

I recon around 20 :verysad: . This is one of the main reason I didn't go pro. I think I could of done 100-150 to the first fight when everyone one jumps on board. I think it's a bit of a piss take though asking your mates to part with their hard earned to put a % in your pocket whilst in their return they come and watch a fight where the other kid is happy knowing he ain't getting his hand raised (I know it's not always the case). Most fighters are not getting put on decent cards so their mates won't even be interested in anyone else fighting. I personally would feel like a prick asking me mates every 3 months to do the same again.

When I was an amatuer we used to get a decent amount of folk coming to watch but there were 3 of us the same age from the same housing scheme. As I've grew up I've kind of kept the same group of close friends so I wouldn't think there would be a lot of folk wanting to watch me. Hard to admit but my old man is quite a popular guy (tragic) and would probably sell a good few on my behalf. Realistically somewhere between 40-60ish....

before my debut I was given a book of tickets to sell but only managed to shift about 5 ! to be fair I wasn't really on board with giving people the hard sell, if they wanted to come they would buy a ticket was my thinking, as it turned out no one was interested not even my bloody family and it was in my home town ! anyway after my fight terry lawless accused me of nicking some tickets from the centre of the book and said I had to cover the cost from my purse, welcome to the pros !!

I went to one last week where our pal did 140 in his debut. Me and Tijuana felt a bit aggrieved to pay £35 for what we knew was going to be a 40-36. We did know someone else on the bill who had a thriller so that was ok. We left after four bouts out of nine and checking the results the next day, there was no surprises. The same guys go again in May. I think he'll still do 100 tickets as 99% of those who went weren't boxing fans and just turned it into an alldayer round Leeds. They had a great night!

My mate turned pro under Barry Hughes then he went tits up so he signed with Tommy Gilmour and in his initial meeting all he done was talk about himself, tell him he's expected to sell x amount of tickets and 'you'll fight who I tell you when I tell you' bullshit! He had to pay for his own medical out his purse with him too and ended up with next to nothing per fight under Gilmour. He is supposed to be a big promoter up here! My mates experience under him completely ruined any desire he once had and he said he wished he'd have stayed amatuer. A lot of folk don't realise how cut throat it is behind the scenes. Promoters are pure sharks.

Makes you wonder how much talent has slipped away and went unnoticed due to them maybe not being a ticket seller, especially up here.

First time I fought in my local town hall I sold about 70 and I wasn't even on a cut of the cash! Got spanked as well and from that day on I never invited another person to one of my fights although occasionally pals would come when they knew I was on.

It's not my bag pressuring folk to sell tickets. I can't stand it when people used to try and sell me herbal life or what ever that big gas and electricity initiative was a few years ago. If I want to watch a fight or show I will choose to go because I think it is likely to be entertaining. Not because someone tried to pressure me

I also had to pay all me medical stuff from me purse, just assumed that was normal still don't know if it is or not. fought one of Gilmours lads up in Glasgow, when we got there he changed his story on the agreed weight and said he was gonna take 50 quid off me purse for every pound I was over (wanted me to shift 5 pounds an hour before weigh in ) so I lost 3 pounds and he let me off the rest, by then I got the feeling this pro lark wasn't all I had expected !

Not sure about the medical payments to be honest. Think it just depends who you are. I know there were a couple of guys who my mate knew under Gilmour who had their medicals payed. When he was with Hughes his medical was payed also so he was a bit taken a back when he met with Gilmour. He hasn't got a good word to say about the guy.

That sounds shifty as fornicate! I assume you were probably travelling up doing them a favour and they pull that crap!

I know, you enter into it thinking its all a level playing field and people can be trusted but its not like that at all

My mates had exactly the same experience under Alex Morrison. Pair of fornicating con men.

I sold 200 odd for my last amateur fight back in 2002. I got beat so I didn't bother again.

True. When was the last time any of them done anything halfway decent as a promoter? They are small time up here. Any fighter with talent/ambition should stay clear. I was glad when Josh Taylor went with Cyclone.

When you buy tickets for fighters on the undercard of events do they get a % of what they sell? Always try and buy off a fighter direct if I can and just wondered if they get anything out of it. Hope they do

I prefer to buy of the fighters to pushes the number of tickets they sell and normally get to avoid the biggest robbery about booking fees! Me and our kid got two £60.00 tickets to Frampton and Quigg and it cost us £17.00 in admin fees I'm not a minge bag but I hate paying for the privilege of spending my own money! Them Hatton vs Lazcano and Haye Vs Harrison are the only ones I have never bought direct off a fighter felt like my kecks had been had been pulled down both times !

From what I've heard off some boys I know they make a small percentage if they manage to sell over a certain amount.

Both parents were only children (so no aunties, uncles and cousins etc.) and believe it or not I am not very popular in real life so I couldn't sell out the proverbial phone box.

As luck would have it I was shite so didn't have this problem ! :verysad: :verysad:

Depends on promoter some dodgy ones make people sell so many before getting on the show, some its percent of tickets only! Even with bigger ones theres still a % I know with Matchroom its 10%

Agree booking fees are a joke and also a big reason I always try and boy off someone on the card.

Even if its not a local one, always worth trying a fighters own website if they've got one they may charge £2 or something for postage but better than official sites and their 10% booking fee plus postage!
