September 11th - Miguel Cotto v Kelson Pinto


I for one am fascinated by this. We came so close to seeing just how good Pinto might be when he steps up, but we all know what happened there. Now he gets another chance although arguably against a much tougher opponent. I can't wait to see these two young unbeaten punchers go head to head.

Margarito v Santos II on the undercard is not one to miss either. I believe Margarito has developed into much more of an athlete over the last year or so, I'm hoping for him to take care of business this time in style.

A bit of history here too as Pinto beat Cotto as an amateur (I think people on this forum have said this anyway)

Miguel Cotto will face Brazilian knockout artist Kelson Pinto on September 11th in a twelve round fight for the vacant WBO 140 – pound championship. Cotto and Pinto are not strangers to one another having fought three times in their amateur careers. Pinto got the upper hand winning two of the three times.

So many matches this year have been cancelled, so intriguing match of the year isn't the greatest achievement.

The winner of Hatton v Harris fighting the winner of this fight would certainly be a good little scrap to have. Mind u if Pinto and Hatton win is Warren really gonna wanna put that on after Pinto's antics before.

Full marks to Cotto. He's taken on his fair share of live opponents on his march to the top. Him and his team could have opted for much less demanding opposition and still got a high ranking from the Alphabet boys.

I favour Cotto, but as Pinto's form guide is not as quantified it's a close call.

Antonio Margarito is, for me, one the best in the business on his current form and think he should be too much of a handful for Santos. I'd have preferred to see Antonio prove his supremacy at Welterweight by taking on Spinks etc, but can't have any real complaints about him squaring off with Santos. Both potential crackers.

Easy win for Cotto I reckon. He's had some good learning fights, while yer man Pinto has fought a bunch of warm bodies. Pinto had knocked out some hero no less than four times last time I looked. Probably five by now.

I agree. Cotto's class will tell in this one. He'll look real good. Pinto will run out of ideas pretty quick.

yip i concur im not even sure pinto will show

thoug I would love pinto to ko cotto, just to shut some of the of the cotto flag wavers up.

I still say he is too left hand happy.

Cotto will be favourite for sure, but you never quite know what another young unbeaten Latino puncher will produce on the night when he's got a golden oppurtunity right there in front of him.

Before Pinto is written off as a guy with a padded record, one win on his CV does stand out. A ten round points win over Emmanuel Augustus. If it was a clear cut points win, then that is a noteworhty achievement and proves he should be taken seriously.

True, that's a good win. Guess I'm just a bit disillusioned with Pinto over his Hatton no show.
