Anyone know how he's doing nowadays? Is he still in Hackney?

he doesnt box, he lifts weights and does cardio.

I asked the same question a while back, can't remember if it was here or on Secondout's defuct forum.

Some posters seemed to think Dennis had fell prey to the bottle, like his arch rival Harding.

No idea if this is true, I hope it ain't.

Dennis was class, exciting as all hell at times his battles with harding are legendary stuff, i can just about remember them as a kid.

Am I right in thinking Dennis turned Pro as a small Heavyweight?

Yes, I think he did. He once got chucked in with future British heavyweight champ David Pearce and went seven rounds. Pearce, like Andries, was a bit of an animal.

I really admired the way Andries after losing to Hearns relaunched his career by rebasing himself in America and training in the Kronk gymn.... by all accounts he had to go through some very tough 'sparring bouts' in order to gain the other Kronk boxers respect...

His preformance against Hearns goes down as one of the bravest I have ever seen in a boxing ring. In Detroit against the main man, he had been floored on multiple occasions and still never stopped throwing punches, to the point of flooring Hearns.

When Dennis fought Bobby Czyz in Atlantic City in 1988, he was a 4/1 underdog. Czyz had just lost his IBF light-heavyweight title in a thrilling fight with Prince Charles Williams after a solid reign. He was an established darling of the American-TV networks - and could fight, too. But Dennis gave him a pasting. When we talk about great British performances abroad, that one rarely gets a mention.

Andries would be a major name were he around now, he would give most of the current crop of light heavyweights around a right pasting.

He was absolutely fornicating huge, how he made light heavy is beyond me. He was the light heavyweight version of Carl Thompson.

i'd go along with that vastly underated in the annals of british boxing.

Good call, bennie. This was a great british overseas performance.
Full marks to Andries.Hope he made a few quid of the game and happily enjoying his retirement.

Andries performance in regaining the World title from Harding in Austrailia is often overlooked too... has to be up there with the great British boxing performances abroad I think!.
Think of the recognition Andries would have got if he had been a heavyweight!.

My aunt maggie grew up in Armagh (Northern Ireland for the ignoramuses amongst our throng), went to live in Oz, and now sounds like fornicating Dame Edna.

yes he was, amazing the number of quality fighters that country has produced considering the size of the place

doesnt fight, just keeps in shape...
doesnt like people knowing who is old man is, he is a humble guy..
Only found out by accident when we were talking about boxing and he seemed to know a lot about the Kronk boys....

Yes I remember reading about that to.

After the Hearns lose, I'm sure he visited Manny Sterwart and said "Teach me how to box"
