I've seen a lot of fights on YouTube recently from the 1990's and I noticed how many quality light heavyweights there were in the 1990's. None of them were able to win a world title though. I recently watched on YouTube.

Mark Prince v Monty Wright

Any memories from this generation of Light- heavyset?

You need to add Mark Prince vs Michael Gale to the list of fights to watch.

Also Maurice Core was good to watch around that time.

Piper came close to beating Leeonzer Barber , he held his own and really damaged Barbers eye up, but Piper walked onto one in the 9th and fell apart.

Both Prince and Piper had a shot at Dariusz Michalczewski but the Champion was in his prime, and both got soundly beaten there.

Is Mark Prince not still fighting? Fought not long ago? Vaguely remember Piper. They've shown a couple of his old bouts on BN.

The World champions at Light Heavyweight in the mid- late 1990s were unreal fighters. Michalczweski was unbeaten for 10 years as champ and he defeated Piper and Prince for World titles as well as Noel Magee for an inter-continental title. Roy Jones was one of the greatest Light Heavys in history imo. Fabrice Tiozzo was a great champion also. He beat MGee and Core for the European title also. Not forgetting Mike McCallum and Virgil Hill. A very tough time for any British/Irish fighter to win a title.

Michael Gale was from my club I watched him as an amateur and professional. Very good amateur. I think Nick Manners as well from same club. Decent enough pros.

He's fighting the board of control as they wont give him a license.
He's been on a couple of the Malta commission shows. Looks in good shape to be fair.

That's a cracking memory you've got, Sky hardly ever mentioned he was in MENSA. I've got a good one as well, I've always remembered Clev has a maths degree.

Used to train with gale in pros, his biggest battle was always with the scales, broke my heart the night he lost to prince really though he was gonna pull it off

Budgie breeder

A lad I used to train with, John Oxenham, boxed Garry Delaney. John had nearly a hundred amateur bouts and had never been put down. Garry dropped him with a body shot and beat him up a bit. John was just over 6 foot tall but Garry towered over him.

I thought it was Geoff Capes who was the budgie breeder?

My pick of the bunch would be Ashley.

market district? White rose? I cant remember...he eon boys clubs then boxed my pal on a club show...the nxt time i saw him was when when pr mason stopped him in Glasgow (or his ghost) o sharp for him. Nick was another who never realsed his potential imo..

Nicky piper one of the most quite unassuming boxers, my brother always reminds how tough he was,when he comes on the tv

I think he'd be mine, too, certainly the one I remember best, and the biggest puncher of the lot (biggest-punching Brit 175lber in our lifetime?)
