Liam Walsh Vs Troy James. 30th April

Finally it's on, after Troy was made mandatory 18 months ago we thought it would of happened sooner, injury, pull outs, shows cancelled, but at last it's been made for the undercard of Billy Joe Saunders world title defence. It's not ideal that we've only got 28 days notice especially has we are mandatory but it is what it is and it's now or never, Troy has the power to hurt anyone at 9st 4lb, let's roll the dice and see what happens :TU:

Was hoping Walsh would vacate tbh. Some cracking domestic match ups to be made at SuperFeather and I think Liam is a level above British now. I personally think he would give Flanagan fits at 135 if that fight were to be made.

Surely you dont need more than 28 days to prepare for a fight thats been in the offering so many times ?

Why's that then ?

The fights been on and off, off and on, we was lead to believe that he (Walsh) would vacate has he had a fight with Flannigan lined up and we would face Martin J Ward if that was to happen, and that would then go to purse bids so that fight wouldn't happen before May/June at least if it was to go to purse bids.
But obviously that's fell through for them and the board are putting pressure on for the titles to be fought for ASAP and that's the date they've chosen and let us know this afternoon.
28 days is not ideal imo to prepare for a world class fighter like Liam, has that gives us only 3 weeks sparring for a specific style and nail the game plan on, unless your extremely talented like you must be to think 28 days is sufficient.
And I know what you mean by saying we've known were meant to be fighting him for a long time but we can't just solely prepare for 1 style of fighter that then vacates and we get a complete different style fighter, so we don't prepare specifically for any fighter until we've got the green light that a fight is definitely on, that's common sense, which shockingly isn't that common now a days

Why do professional sportsman needs more than four weeks to prepare for their job ? Never really understood that to be honest with you.

Surely it would have been better to prepare for Walsh, then if he vacates change the preparations for the new opponent because with it having to go to purse bids you'd get enough notice for the vacant title fight anyway. That way wouldn't you be able to do a full camp for both opponents, regardless of which fight actually happened?

Yes and no, all lads are different, some can and will do that and in a ideal world that is spot on but then some struggle mentally to train for a fight that isn't 100% on or with a definite date in sight, especially when there's been so many let downs and cancellations along the way, and your told it's likely the fight won't be happening. But all said and done, we are over the moon and can't wait, Troy will be more than ready and it's gonna be a great fight imo

Interesting insight. Really good fight this. Very tidy undercard is holding up the main event a bit. Should be a good night.

Walsh wins he will vacate , Troy James wins in the time frame for that fight to happen he will be allowed a voluntary defence. we are looking at a fight at moment as a possible final elinaotor for Ronnie also.

If troy wins their is every chance they will give Ronnie the voluntary shot. Can only think Martin j ward who cud b in the mix for another eliminator or final eliminator with ronnie.

Don't see why Walsh would vacate, he'll be one defence away from winning it outright with no mandatory due. Probably won't defend it next because he should have a final eliminator for the IBF, but if he wins that the world title fight won't be due until December or early next year, so he'd have time for a fight in between, which would make sense to be his 3rd defence of the British title to keep it for good.

Do they not count his win against Sykes and 2 mandatory fights?? Liam is on the Verge of a world title fight at either weight. I'm sure the brothers were keen to win a belt outright for their dad. I'm sure if that's the case it will depend on Ryan. He has a hard fight with Tennyson but if he gets through that I'd fancy him against Lowe. So he would win it out right? Hard one for them because Liam is beyond British Level and these fights are high risk low reward. Same with Ryan I would fancy him to beat Warrington but is in with a huge featherweight in Tennyson

presumably because they want a full camp if it's a big fight and they say the best way to achieve optimal fitness and to peak at a certain time.
Also to be able to make the weight comfortably and safely. I know that sounds a bit cotton woolish and we all love these guys that rock up on short notice and do the job but although they're called "professionals" the reality is that they're not all like Floyd Mayweather who walks around almost at his ring-weight.
I think the unpredictability and uncertainty in this sport is the reason some of 'em up with problems.

Need 3 defences mate and one has to be a mandatory, he'd still need one more to win it outright. He's held onto the Commonwealth for over 5 years now so I can't see him giving the British title up unless he has to.

Walsh is a proud lad, he won't vacate unless he really has too or made too for world title, he wants that Lonsdale to keep for family. They are great lads, as is Graham Everritt there trainer, but this is business and that being said, we are extremely confident that on 30th April Troy James will stop Liam Walsh, a lot of people will think I'm talking shit, but I guarantee you if Liam can't bamboozle Troy early he's in massive trouble mate at 9st 4lb with 8oz gloves on and El Torro Troy James relentlessly on his case, I guarantee that

Im glad this fights finally happening,is Walsh the longest reigning Commonwealth champ of all time? He's beyond this level, why he hasnt fought for a European title by now i'll never know,im not necessary saying he's beyond James's level,i havent seen much of James recently,i remember him being with McGuigan early in his career then never really heard much apart from Prizefighter,he gave Flanagan a decent fight by all accounts and obviously beat Clark which i remember

I wish Troy and Boxing Cutsman all the best,Liam is an excellent talent though and it will be a tough ask

No disrespect to Troy and his team, I know a member of his team posts here, but Walsh will end up going stale and not fulfilling his obvious potential if he hangs around the domestic scene much longer. He needs to be pushed on and fast. I'd like to see him in a title fight as early as the autumn. I reckon he'd be in with a shout against Pedraza. I rate Walsh as better than Stephen Smith.
