Just a quick question

Are English and British titles different?

Been looking up records on wiki and some say... won BBBofC British title and some say English

Is it the same thing?

They are different. The British title (Lonsdale belt) is far superior

English 10 rounds.
British 12 rounds.

I think the English title can be fought for over 12 rounds as well, if there is also another title on the line or it is an eliminator.

The English title is comparatively new or just held little kudos as I don't remember any English title fights from before the turn of the century.

You're right Horse. I remember the first English title fight with Fury v McDermott was a ten rounder and the rematch for the same title was over 12 because it doubled as an eliminator for the British.

I don't think any of the scheduled 12 rounders ever reached the 11th round though.

Do enjoy English title fights. Think it's been a positive thing having them as a buffer between British level & Northern/Central/Southern area level.

All English titles are billed for 10 rounds but obviously if it is linked to any other title that is 12 rounds then the other title will be withheld. British title probably the best title in the world. Great tear ups

Interestingly the Lord Lonsdale Challenge Belt was originally awarded to the English Champion, but then went on to become the British Championship belt. Since then, there wasn't really and English Championship until the current one introduced by the Board around 2003, which was shortly followed by the Celtic Championship for the other three countries.

didnt the 3 others already have their own titles ? scottish area, welsh and irish titles ?

They still do, but they are effectively equivalent to the Southern Area, Central Area etc.

There is no rule that says you do. When looking at whether to approve someone for an Area title challenge in our area, we look at all factors, including what distance they have boxed over, what level of experience they have, who they have fought, how many of their fights have been 2 min rounds rather than threes, and so on. My experience is that it is hard to approve someone to jump straight from 4 rounders to 10 rounders, but it can happen in exceptional cases. And occasionally you get people who have never been past 4 rounds because they have stopped opponents early, even though their fights were scheduled for 6, 8 or even 10. So it's all looked at on a case by case basis.

Thanks for reply. I wanted a 4rd home win last song swong and got refused but saw Robbie Barret and Brad Botham I think he was called go straight into an area title fight think, Brad not boxed over 4. I think I have more wins on me record lol no disrespect to the fighter intended. Just thought it was more a risk doing ten rds than letting me do 6x2mins. Cheers
