I must say he does bring a WWE wrestling element to the sport and he seems like a very funny character.
I think its good fun and could reach out to a different fan base.
What are your thoughts?

It's funny up until the point he gets a big fight, which to be frank he doesn't deserve.

The fight with Vitali he got really badly hurt and as much as I want some one to shut him up I don't want to see that again.

Would be good cannon fodder for Ortiz maybe, but I think he's good for boxing pressers not in the ring.

My thoughts are that he is an entertaining guy - outside the ring. In it, he's gassed after throwing 10 punches, has been for 15 years and is extremely dull to watch because he has no gas tank.

Can't disagree with you there. He obviously needs the money. I hope he gets his pay day then packs it in. Wouldn't like to see the guy get hurt bad.

He's ancient, out of shape, and is just another tragedy waiting to happen.

If he fought someone like Joshua, there's a serious chance he could end up with life threatening injuries. Briggs unfortunately can take a punch, and at his age that's not a good thing.

No. It reflects poorly on the sport and the encourages the idea that you can talk your way into big fights, not earn them.

Not to mention the fact that you can do so at an age where you shouldn't really be fighting on, not with the skillset and conditioning briggs has.

Yes. He's a showman & brings good pre fight entertainment which is a rarity. As long as he dont get badly hurt if/when he fights then I'm all for it

No. A hype job who will sell a fight but then leave fans disappointed that he was so far out of his depth. The reason why he's only willing to fight gym fighters or world champions is because anybody in between would be likely to beat him.

It's like pulling a fit bird, then waking up in the morning to find she's nicked your wallet and flat screen TV - rather disappointing.

...when i was a kid we used to go to the circus and in the breaks we used to have those clowns intertaining the crowd...it was fun as long as the clown didn't repeat the same gig all the time...

As said in another thread, at first it was slightly amusing but now it's boring and bordering on self-parody. Either fight someone or do one back to the USA. By someone, I mean anyone. It's all well and good shouting at AJ or Fury, but he has to realise he's not in their league. I think he'd not so much "struggle" but be fairly even with the most fringe of British heavy's.

Its boring now.

He probably does appeal to a certain segment.

That would be the same segment who were in awe of Kimbo Slice.

I don't think he gets visibility outside of specific niche boxing fights, so it doesn't get any new fans in. He's not really known outside of proper boxing fans.

And he's 44 and unlikely to win or even land a major bout so he's just irritating to the actual boxing fans who have to look at his pathetic garbage.

If it was an upcoming young prospect then maybe. If Fury had indulged in this kind of shennigan before the Klit fight, then maybe.

But Briggs? No, it's just an irritant

He is good up to a point.

A long as he continues to be a hired stooge, employed by the likes of Team Hayemaker & Wladimir to drum up interest & get people watching them, that's great.

If it ends up with him getting a 'big' fight, then he ceases to be good for the sport.

If I show my mum about Klitschko she would turn the TV on a differend channel, if I show my mum Briggs she creates an opinion about him because he's so clearly present.

Even if she is against him, she still got her opinion and will check what happens and will get more interested in the sport of boxing.

Shows how many people only watch the build up and aftermath and don't bother with the actual fights at all. Briggs has been terrible for years, brave but terrible. Shame because he was a quality operator once upon a time.

I'd be fine with watching Briggs at a certain level as long as he is able to pass the medicals. Fighting Gary Cornish for example in an 8 or 10 rounder in Glasgow I'd be fine with watching, to get some kind of gauge as to what he has left.

It's a case of whether he wants to take those fights for the kinda money he would get for them. I just have this feeling he is broke and just wants a payday v Joshua, Haye or Fury.

He's supposed to be on the Burns bill next month so hopefully it'll be Cornish if Cornish wants it. He must be broke. If he beats someone like Cornish then manages to get a nice payday I'd like to see him walk away. A win against Cornish is no certainty either at this stage in his career.

Cornish is the type of guy I'd actually watch Briggs fight.

How "big" is Shannon Briggs? I mean how many "lay fans" know about "lets go champ". Yes, boxing fans know about it but I haven't read too much about it beyond boxing websites.

Started off amusing and actually had a bit of sense (e.g. did Briggs actually stand less of a chance the Lepai - which is when it actually started). Now though it is silly and it has become a parody - he says lets go champ at everything now, even policeman!

The point is, he creates fans, weather they become fan of him, or his opponends doesn't matter. 50 years ago there was nobody who gave a dime about football, nowadays, you can't even buy the English title in 5 years with a billion dollars. A Billion! The most popular boxers in history got big stories around them, that's what creates opinions about them. Why do you think Fury had comments on gays and later kissed one? It's done to keep people talking. People can buy one ticket for one match of Arsenal, but for the same amount of money you can go to the cinema and watch a movie every weekend for the rest of the year.

Someone should just hire him to promote them.
