Eddie Chambers to test unbeaten Gerald Washington 4/30

Hopefully "Fast" Eddie didn't waste the last couple of years of his prime being a sparring mate in the UK & occasionally fighting ham & eggers on undercards there.
If he's still even remotely close to what he was before his ill-fated attempt at becoming a player in the cruiserweight class then he could pull the upset in about three weeks. I'm hoping he does so, as I've always enjoyed watching him fight.
Yeah, Washington will have a big edge in size & power, but that's nothing new to Chambers. His title fight with Klitschko aside, Eddie's always done well against big men. And I certainly didn't see anything during Washington's draw with Mansour last summer that leads me to believe that he'll beat Chambers.
IMO it all depends on how much Eddie has left in the tank.
As long as he's not on the road to being shot then I expect him to take Washington apart down the stretch en route to a W10.
If he manages that, then it would only take one more win over a decent heavyweight to get him back in the title shot picture. And who knows?
With men like Browne, Chagaev & Oquendo having held, holding or penciled in to fight for a title, it's still possible for Eddie to become a titlist under the right circumstances.
Will he ever become THE World Heavyweight Champion?
Very doubtful, but I'd like to see him win one of those fringe belts floating around at the moment & make some $$$ before his careers over.

Good fight. I find it hard to pick a winner but I'd probably edge for Chambers.

I am almost certain Washington wins this. Eddie has beaten no one top 100 rated in a long long time. I hope I am wrong, I would really like to see him do well and climb the ratings again. At one stage he looked really good but he seems to have wasted the years.

My initial guess is Chambers outboxes Washington, but I don't know how much Fast Eddie has left.

I don't think Washington offers much to be honest, but I think he'll beat Chambers.

A win sets him up for his cash out party against a top twenty guy.

I don't think it's televised.

Good matchup and interesting test for Washington. Kinda feels like a last stand for Chambers as a win here can get Eddie Chambers at least somewhat back into relevance, and a loss here would pretty much kill any chance he has of landing another big opportunity in his career

It's pathetic Chambers vs Washington isn't televised. Showing Andre focking Berto instead. :brick:

Berto-Ortiz was predictably much more entertaining.

Eddie didn't give an fornicate and threw like 15 punches a round.

I never liked Chambers so I am glad he lost. Gerald Looked pretty darn good I thought, decent hand speed, good movement, kept his distance but it's easy to look somewhat impressive in front of a guy like Chambers that's not known for punching power and not throwing that many punches.

Eddie Chambers? He's an old fat man by now right? Well, if Washington achieved a draw against Mansour, then he's supposed to win easely against Chambers...

Wasn't much of a "test"

Who was the genius announcer last night who opined that "Jimmy Young today" could defeat Gerald Washington?

I think it might have been B.J. Flores.

I guess he doesn't know that Young has been dead for more than a decade. But you can't expect boxing announcers to do their homework.

I actually thought that "Slow Eddie" might have pulled out a draw with his late semi-rally. It wasn't like Washington was a ball of fire at any time during the bout.

He seemed frightened of Chambers' power. Go figure.

Chambers is so removed from his top form that this is actually a pretty well-matched fight. Looking forward to it.

It happened last night and was dreadful. Eddie threw about 15 punches a round and didn't seem to care.

BJ "how do I cut the ring off" Flores? Bit of an idiot really

Washington did the right thing....held distance and jabbing easy to victory.

Chambers has more risk to take, cause he was the smaller guy. He tried a lot of overhand swingers..but had no luck.

Sometimes i think we need new divison "class over 6 feet 5 and long-arm-guys"...in boxing when fighters has good skills, it is a very strong weapon Height & Reach. Weight ist not the biggest factor.

Chambers carries to much extra-weight through the rounds to be in the heavyweight class....he calls "fast Eddie", but he will be much faster when these extra weight around hips are gone...

Quite frankly I think he got old. That and he hasn't been tested much in a long time. Its all well and good to say that heavyweights of the modern era can stay active and productive until they're 40+ years old ( and chambers is only maybe 34 ) but you generally have to have a great deal of size and power to hang around that long. Eddie is relatively small for this era of heavys, doesn't have much snap to his shots and relied too much on speed and workrate which generally goes at an early age.

I haven't seen it, but this is exactly what I expected, 15 a round is still much actually.
