It's clearly the Pussy Era in Boxing and that's how i'm going to choose to remember it. Boxers nowadays don't even try to hide their pussy-ness. I'm sure that there were plenty of them around in the 80s but no boxer wanted to ever be considered one so they took tough fights to prove it.

Canelo and Cotto both talked tough in the post fight interview saying that they are afraid of no man and will take on GGG. The fans roar and then a month later they say "F....That! No freaking way i'm fighting him unless GGG agrees to fight me when he's sucked out and as weak as he possibly could be so that i have a better chance

hamed pretty much ended his career after barrera, otherwise morales and hame would surely have had a meeting.

I've watched boxing for a pretty long time and it does seem like there are more obstacles to making fights than ever. It is undoubtedly true that big fights have failed to materialize in every era, but off hand, I agree with the OP, boxing seems to have broken into so many separate entities all seeming to possess veto power on a fight, that it is a wonder anything big gets made what with TV, promoters and alphabet trinkets all exerting influence. It's a shame too, because I will always believe that the fighters overwhelmingly (not every single one) want to fight, all they want is money; which is there. All of which means that we are just that close to seeing many fights we want to see, pretty sad.

I've been watching for 40 years and there were always fights you wanted to see and didn't, they just made other good fights instead and with the promotional rift now and depleted talent there just isn't the other options there used to be. Sanchez/Pedroza was thwarted by the WBA/WBC feud, but they both had good fights anyway. No depth now.

The network rift then prevented many fights, but there were so many more top fighters the sport was still great. That's the main point, expert, if GGG/Canelo fought tomorrow, where is GGG's next huge fight?

It sucks that I am losing interest fast. I've been a die hard boxing fan for 20 years now. This is the first time I have found my interest waning. Sad but true fact, and not really trying to start an MMA vs Boxing debate here, but, depending on the actual card, you will find better quality match ups on one UFC PPV than you will in a few months worth of boxing..... and I'm not exaggerating.

It sucks that I am losing interest fast. I've been a die hard boxing fan for 20 years now. This is the first time I have found my interest waning. Sad but true fact, and not really trying to start an MMA vs Boxing debate here, but, depending on the actual card, you will find better quality match ups on one UFC PPV than you will in a few months worth of boxing..... and I'm not exaggerating.

UFC is well worth the money.

UFC is well worth the money.

Not that it will ever, ever happen, but boxing would do well to follow the paradigm of the UFC...totally agree, as I am sure we all do.

The real question is, will the reverse happen? Will the vice like grip held by the UFC be broken at some point by a smart, perhaps obstinant fighter(s) who refuses to cave and leads MMA down the path to self imposed marginality that boxing has taken?
