The slow demise of BoxRec's Current Scene forum

I enjoy visiting BoxRec's Current Scene thread, I have always found it to be the most informative thread on all things boxing. However it is rapidly deteriorating into an attention whoring forum reminiscent of a 90's era AOL chat room. I do not mind authentic opinion pieces, but this place is dominated by a handful of members who seem to be in a pissing contest, vying for the most laughable, most outrageous opnion on the site. I am not one to dismiss any legitimate opinion but all you have to do is take a look at the topic board to understand that a bad joke is being played on the majority of Boxrec members. I understand there might be some young men here that like to poke & prod each other, to troll the crowd, and that's all in good fun, but I am seeing more and more people posting asinine opinions in substitute of serious fight topic. Now, the remedy for me would be not to partake in those conversations, simple, and that's what I've done. I'm not asserting that we create a safe space away from the harshness of reality, I'm only asking; do we want to see the most knowledgable boxing site on the web turn into a joke forum? Because that's where we're heading.

It's worth a look now and again, it reminds me of Deliverance, great film.

could not disagree more. i like the forum and
both current scene and history have their merits.

yes there are heated discussions, sometimes
emotions boil up and not everyone has a PHD.
but i like that, after all this is boxing. i for one
actually think there is a remarkable level of
wit and intelligence around here.

boxrec rocks.

The problem is human nature. All of us on some level like it when people respond to our posts.

If we read something intelligent, we are likely to nod our head in agreement, and less likely to respond. If we read something patently moronic, it's instinctive to counter it. If I write so and so is a fairy who can't fight more people will respond than if I write something that makes sense.

Don't worry about the riff raff, I agree with "man" there are still a lot of good posts and posters that you can agree with and/or argue with.

The problem from what I've seen here is that there is a collective/silent agreement here with a great many posters that if you don't like/favor the boxer(s) that they do and you disagree with them that you are attacked with menial insults and name calling.

It has happened to me time and time again, but I always retaliate but then get the finger pointed at me as though I'm the one who started it when they just come out in droves against me.

There are a few posters here who do stay on topic and don't come out hurling insults or TROLLING a poster in every thread.

The vast majority of my topics here on CS are all boxing related and that's what I desire to do is discuss boxing and boxing only but it always turn into these insult hurling contests simply because they cannot handle the fact that you are disagreeing with them when everyone else isn't.

An objective and differing opinion is not appreciated here, they want everyone to be the same. If you do then you are an outcast.

You are guilty of this as well. I see you calling people names all the time. Stop calling others hypocrites as you are one yourself.

Don't act like Mr. Innocent because you don't often fully outright engage. It's not about people not liking or favoring the boxer you like.. it's about people getting tired of the bias and the passive aggressive trolling... I mean, your nickname alone suggests both.

I admitted that I retaliate, but I never initiate any mess. I never claimed innocent, learn how to read with comprehension because you are proving just what I stated.

Anytime I say anything you guys come out on the attack, you just proved that.

Guys, there is a good tool to minimize trolling -- just add a few trolls to your ignore lists and you will see something like that unless somebody quotes them:

I never implied anything, that's just your ASSumption because I can recall plenty of times where you TROLLED me on the forum hurling insults.

I've insulted Brut from time to time. In my defence, he was being an arsehole.

I've been here since '04, it seems that the there's often threads about how the forum used to be a lot better.

There's a lot of knowledgeable posters here, (The Beast is probably the best there's ever been) though there does seem to be far more abrasive posters these days - it's as if Stacy Goodson has spawned loads of posting offspring .

I was being an arsehole how so, because I agreed with you or someone else and y'all didn't like it and then you turned to insults because that's usually what happens.

I never had nothing negative to say to you until you started in on me, just like every other person here has done with me; they start off insulting me, then I retaliate and then they get upset and report me to the Mods then I get a Ban for simply responding back.

It is happening in another thread on CS right now where I have a couple of posters that has been trolling me and then hurling insults though I never assaulted them upfront.

I'm always in retaliatory mode, yes two wrongs don't make it right but I love to give people a taste of their own medicine, on the other hand if folks here just want to simply talk shop then I'm all for that 100% of the time without the insults going back and forth.

Do I dare mention how if you were to go over to OT and in subjects that absolutely have nothing to do with me and ones that I haven't even posted in you'll find someone saying something insulting towards me.

You will also find a thread dedicated to those who want to do no more than hurl lame insults at me, notice that they fired the first shots as they always do but should I decide to play along and go in on them then they will get infuriated and start reporting to the Mods how I'm insulting them.

It's happening here on Current Scene in a couple of thread right now, I didn't start it either, I never do.

See for yourself, if I put up a pic like the one Ikey put up then I would receive a Ban for inappropriate material but he will get a pass from the Mods:

http://boxrec.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p ... 1#p4372621

This is what happens routinely here, they get very upset when you talk about a fighter they all like (in this case GGG), I said nothing bad about the guy, just gave the facts and they turned it into a thread of insults when they had nothing to refute those facts.

This is why this forum can be such a disgraceful place for those like the OP to come here to post because he has to see this, but if I retaliate then I'm the "Bad Guy" then one who is making trouble.

Re: The slow demise of BoxRec's Current Scene forum

by Undefeated49-0
Now I was having a debate in a thread I started regarding Mikey Garcia and I posted a link that provided the facts and yet a poster said he still thought Arum offered Garcia a fight with Crawford that Garcia turned down but the link shows that isn't true and then he comes back and calls me a Troll in my own thread for simply posting the facts.

You see this is how it starts, they get proven wrong or you say something that's factual and then the come back with insults.

Also in another thread I started Ikey aka the racists, scumbag, bigot and White Supremacist Freedom is there trying to ruin the thread simply because I said something against his beloved and worshiped Golovkin so he comes into my thread posting up Mayweather stuff when the thread isn't even concerning nothing in regards to Floyd.

I can't make this stuff up here, but once I again I will be labeled the "Bad Guy" for saying anything back to anyone and all those who favor those individuals will choose their side against me.

This is what this forum amounts to.

Goodbye Brut (aka Undefeated49-0). Please stay away this time.

A bit of spring cleaning was required unfortunately.
