it was funny, cause jones was hurt, he thought dan rafael knew boxing, but than he found out that dan had him #1, like i do. now both are friends

my take on the list. i find mosley and tito to low, those guys beat prime de la hoya and de la hoya is 6 (cause he is more famous) and mosley & tito something like 11-15 .

lets get to the top. chavez should not be in the top 5, he beat a lot of sparring matches, but couldnt beat the top guys, taylor was a robbery, pernell was a robbery, sorry both are better than chavez. jones is the true #1. what many people dont know, he started art junior middleweight and was winning against anybody up until heavyweight, thats 6 freaking divisions. he beat a young getting close to his prime hopkins easily, he beat a previously undefeated toney, made james look like a c level opponent. but it is more than achieving things it is also the way you did and simply put it, prime jones was the best boxer who ever went into a ring. looking just on the fact of achieving things than pac has to be #1, cause he moved from minimumweight till 154, thats like 12 fu&/()ing divisions. barrera, morales, marquez, cotto, mosley, hoya, margarito, clottey, bradley, hatton, mayweather, nobody faced as many top opponents as manny did!

Seeing Floyd and Hopkins in the top 5 really makes me despair. Cherrypicking, Spoiling, clinching and stinking the joint out still fashionable to the psuedo-pureists i see.

Jones, Pacman, Morales, Marquez, MAB are my first picks. Golovkin is still carving out his body of work but i've seen enough to put him in Hagler territory he's that good. Calzaghe gets there for me.... Ward is a maybe, shame his career went in the gutter after Froch. Mosley should get there.

JCC is too high if they're going by the fights they had from the last 25 years, so from '91 that takes away everything he did at SFW & LW which is still a great career but not top 5 for me.

Nice to see Calzaghe rightfully ahead of Ward.

There is just no way I can justify putting Roy Jones over Floyd Mayweather. I can only think of two impressive victories Jones had; Toney, & Hopkins. Maybe Tarver. But I always remember waiting for Jones to fight Dariusz Michalczweski and later on Fabrice Tiozzo. I'm not saying it's his fault for those fights not happening but bottom line is that we didn't get to see them fight, particularly Michalczweski. A fighter's career needs to be viewed as it is. Jones' fans like to pick a window of his career and say "this was the real RJJ" & discount the rest. To dismiss Jones' losses is disingenuous. You are not allowed to take a fighter's career and divide it into two as if he were a split personality. If he was separated from the sport by injury or otherwise (like Ali, Tyson) then I would give it some credence but Roy had 9 losses and the one to Calzaghe cannot be dismissed. A man cannot get beat like that and with the wave of a wand say "it doesn't matter, I was better than you ten years ago" No man loses that much speed, power, talent, etc from his prime to explain that whopping mismatch of talent. I put Mayweather up there with Sugar Ray Robinson as one of the greatest of all time. Yes, I know what his faults are but I believe his talent is that good. Kudos to the original poster, I think this is a great topic of discussion.

I kinda agree with the top 5, except Chavez Jr. Shoulda been Whitaker, DLH, or Lopez.

I'd have Whitaker and Floyd the top 2.

Personally I'd probably have Whitaker 1 and Jones Jr. 2 . Once I saw Golovkin above Terry Norris, I knew there wouldn't agree with it . Golovkin has potential but has to cement his legacy . Toney couldn't be behind Calzaghe for me and I couldn't put Hopkins in front of Roy Jones.

I disagree with you. He beat everyone he faced, retired undefeated and only had trouble in two fights. A superb technician who packed power for a weight where it's very unusual to have a 73% KO ratio. He is definitely top 10. We can argue justifiably about top 5 but not top 10 imo.

He was extremely talented, his resume just falls short. I wouldn't have him in the top 5 Mexicans. Morales, MAB & JMM definitively. I'd also have him behind Castillo & H Gonzalez, though those two are arguable.

I don't dispute his talent, he just was around at a time where King or his handlers prevented him from taking that dare to be great fight against a Too Sharp or Carbajal. He would unlikely make my list, but might squeeze in.

maidana 2 was a dq loss, since baylesswas bought out, it wasnt normal that bayless never let maidana box from inside, floyd clinched excessive and lost therefore
maidana first fight it was close but i had maidana winning, he simply did more, was more effective

It's actually a pretty damn good list, with a few missteps. I think they got the top 4 exactly right, in the right order. RJJ had the most impressive prime of anyone in the list, but his resume falls short of that of Hopkins, Manny and Floyd. Whitaker should take the #5 spot ahead of Chavez. Oscar is a bit too high, but I think he deserves to be ahead of Trinidad (despite throwing it away he proved himself the better boxer in their fight) and Mosley (Oscar was robbed in the rematch). GGG shouldn't be in there yet - I'd have Martinez in instead of him.

I have always believed that when you have polls such as these, it should mean fighters that have turned pro & risen to prominence inside the stated timeframe, otherwise you can have fighters that were champions 25 - 30 (maybe more) years ago still featuring & that's not fair IMHO.

around 2007-2009: prime paul williams, prime margarito, prime cotto, prime clottey, prime pacquiao

these 2 period of time where filled with super strong primed ww, who would have destroyed this era of ww.

floyd wasnt the best boxer of the last 25 years, but he was the best business man, the best pussy.

just because others get help too doesnt make it any better that you get it.
