FURY-KLITSCHKO JULY 9 ENGLAND

The rematch is apparently finally set. It will talk place in Manchester. This fight will shape the HW division going forward and this test seems a little too deep in the water for Wlad. I do not see how he changes things around from the first fight. After this fight the champs will be Joshua --Wlad or Fury--Wilder/Potvetkin. Maybe after that we can finally get a unification bout on our hands. That is what the sport needs.

Ridiculous that it's taking this long between fights - both could easily have had a tuneup in between. I'd have liked to have seen Fury take his mandatory against Glazkov - he'd have won easily, but at least it would have prevented Fury being stripped. Wlad could have taken on another tall opponent below Fury's level to test that he's still got it - perhaps a Dimitrenko or similar.
I like Fury to win another decision, but Wlad is always a puncher's chance in this matchup because of his big power and Fury's average chin. I also don't like Fury's weight gain between fights - he can get away with it now, but for how long?

I agree with you on the weight for Fury which I am surprised at because I thought he said he would come in lighter for this fight. It is a long time between fights but I am glad there is not a fight in between. If Wlad loses then this is probably it for him. I like Fury more than others and i think he wants to take on all comers. A fight between Fury and Joshua would be great.

Fury could've done with a fight between to keep him training and motivated. Wlad at his age probably could do with a rest between intense training camps.

I don't think it has happened that often. Off the top of my head I can remember the following champions regaining their titles against the men who took it away from them. There may be a few more but I can't recall them atm:
Evander Holfield - Riddick Bowe
Lennox Lewis - Hasim Rahman
Lennox Lewis - Oliver McCall
Muhammad Ali - Leon Spinks
Muhammad Ali - Ken Norton

I think Floyd Patterson vs Ingemar Johanson was the first to do it. Can't think of any others besides those already posted - although while Ali avenged his loss to Norton, only their third fight - where Norton was robbed - was for the title, no?

You are correct Patterson-Johansson was the first in the heavyweight division. It was my one glaring omission. I put Ali-Norton on my list because Ali regained the NABF title in their second fight and Catman Scabbers didn't specify world titles just titles.

McCall vs Lennox, the record SAYS this: Lennox lost the title to OLIVER MCCALL but....
(You can say it is technicall, perhaps...) their rematch Lennox DID NOT win the title back from him because their pairing was for VAC CHAMPIONSHIP.

1899 Robby Fitsimmons lost HIS WORLD HVY-wt. championship to James J. Jeffries. In 1902 he rematched James J., and lost for second time. World championship on the line.

Generally speaking, rematches of all kinds tend to go the way of the first fight, I remember someone had done a statistical analysis of this years ago, and it was heavily weighted in favour of the person who won the first, which when you think about it logically, makes perfect sense. If you've figured your man out first time round, chances are you'll do it again.

This was the "category" of the question.
