POINTLESS BOXING MISCELLANEA

David Tua, the popular, much loved puncher, was given one world title fight his whole career. One.

And the champion he had to face was Lennox Lewis (who delayed Tua's shot more than once).

Meanwhile, Mr. Tua's chief knockout victims - Ruiz, Maskaev, Rahman and Oquendo - after losing to Tua, went on to engage in, between them, twenty-five subsequent world title fights.*

TWENTY-FIVE WORLD TITLE FIGHTS.

*including Oquendo's impending WBA shot.

Does anyone else have any pointless boxing miscellanea they would like to share?

I won't call it pointless, but not too many people know that Burley fought Williams and Charles in the same week.

We will certainly receive miscellanea of that calibre in the pointless boxing miscellanea thread. That's amazing; the old timers really do show up the contemporary boxers for the prima donna fags they are.

I would call this pointless; it is actually interesting.
Years from the few boxing fans around will probably look at lists of WBS titleholders, not see Tua's name and not know much about him. Unfortunately, some will think Ruiz, Maskaev, etc. were really good.

There are other guys who fought (and sometimes beat) champions and never got got a shot:

Rex Layne fought Marciano, Walcott, and Charles. He beat Charles and Charles. He never fought for the title.

Ernie Schaaf beat Braddock, Baer, and Loughran. He never fought for the title.
Johnnie Risko beat Baer and Sharkey, never fought for the title.

Razor Ruddock lost to Tyson(2x), Lewis, beat former titleholders Weaver, Smith, Page, and Dokes.

Sometimes a guy just is not in the right place at the right time. Other times, he got hooked.
