Yep, Cotto wanted to fight in June but HBO rejected the 3 fighters he wanted to fight as they were not PPV worthy, HBO called Hearn and asked if Brook will take the fight and when HBO contacted Cotto they didn't get a reply then Hearn contacted ROC and again no reply. So now Cotto isn't going to fight in June he's going to wait and see whose available at the end of the year. http://www.BS.com/miguel-cotto ... ll--103504Horse wrote:Cotto ducked Brook?digzee wrote:Cotto ducked Brook for a reason and people on this forum will see why if this fight happens next.
So, what do you think caused such significant improvement ? He wasn't so impressive in amateurs.SaadOffTheDeck wrote:Spence beats all of them.
I don't watch amateur boxing. Can't say, I've been impressed every step of his pro career. He definitely has a pro style. Breaking down guys to the body won't win decisions in the amateurs.ikorolev wrote:So, what do you think caused such significant improvement ? His talent had always been recognized in the amateurs too, with an outstanding record that includes 2 wins over Amir Iman, and beating Sammy Vasquez. Who recently took out Aron Martinez.SaadOffTheDeck wrote:I don't watch amateur boxing. Can't say, I've been impressed every step of his pro career. He definitely has a pro style. This is true. However, Spence made it look easier.crusader wrote:Pac didn't struggle with Algieri at all.
Why would that surprise you? Cotto is overrated by the media because he is an HBO money maker who never comes up big in the big fight. He ran to the top of the hills in Puerto Rico when GGG and Brook challenged him.Horse wrote:Cotto ducked Brook?digzee wrote:Cotto ducked Brook for a reason and people on this forum will see why if this fight happens next.
Spence would crush that little Filipino smurf. HBO will never let the fight happen. They have to protect all of their overrated stars.crusader wrote:Pac didn't struggle with Algieri at all.
I meant international arena, not beating other Americans. He lost an Olympic quarter-final to a Russian who lost in a semi-final. I also watched his 2011 fight with Kazakh Sapiyev (future Olympic champ) who literally beat Spence hands down.Badhusker wrote:His talent had always been recognized in the amateurs too, with an outstanding record that includes 2 wins over Amir Iman, and beating Sammy Vasquez. I agree with your last statement.crusader wrote:Spence was the arguably the best amateur P4P in the US for a while and was only a win away from medals at the Olympics and World Championships. That's pretty solid (Porter, Thurman, and Garcia didn't even make the Olympic team) and there are many top pros who didn't have better amateur careers than Spence.
He also seems to have a style that is better suited to the pros.
To be fair though and I could be wrong so do correct me if so- didn't Thurman lose out to Demetrius Andrade in regards to his place? Theres no real shame in that if so.crusader wrote:Spence was the arguably the best amateur P4P in the US for a while and was only a win away from medals at the Olympics and World Championships. Why would Cotto wanna fight Brook? What would he gain from it? He's not getting back down to 147 to challenge for the belt so it seems a pretty pointless fight for him in regards to risk to reward.digzee wrote:Cotto ducked Brook for a reason and people on this forum will see why if this fight happens next.
Brook would fight Cotto at any weight. He is even barking at Golovkin.lefty wrote:Why would Cotto wanna fight Brook? What would he gain from it? Thurman lost twice to Andrade in the Olympic trials, but even so he never really did anything to suggest that he was a standout amateur on the international stage.lefty wrote:To be fair though and I could be wrong so do correct me if so- didn't Thurman lose out to Demetrius Andrade in regards to his place?
