How does everyone rate hamed? i see him as a very gifted fighter that retired to soon but at same stage slightly over rated

gifted fighter that had a career to be very proud of and put the spotlight back on the little guys, unfortunatley he became too reliant on his power and kinda burnt himself out but at least he retired with his health intact and a poo load of cash in the bank

than not, because of his insisting on
doing everything differently and that
spells you get countered too easily.

Tremendous tools, great power, speed, reflexes. But just too unorthodox for his own good. Against limited opposition he was overpowering, but even an over the hill Kelley could easily show up Hameds many flaws. I think if Hamed had been more orthodox, controlled, disciplined, he would have been on a level with the likes of Barrera -- as opposed to being made to look like a fool by him.

Under achieved...... if he still listed to the Ingle's he would have had a better career

Totally disagree. under achieved. Huge hitting featherweight, was a couple of fights away from greatness but fame went to his head, he stopped working and boxing and ended up relying on his power too much.

A very good fighter who was fun to watch but somewhat overrated IMO.

Naseem Hamed was the first small boxer to rule over boxing. I remember this time like it was yesterday and people can say what they want but Hamed was at the top of boxing for a period of time. We tuned into his fights in the same way we did for Floyd, to see him lose. To see if he'd finally get smacked in the mouth.

At first i couldn't stand him because i thought he was nothing but a sideshow without merit. But then i saw that he was so skillful and powerful that i became a huge fan of the guy by the end. I turned off the Barrerra fight when i knew he didn't have it that night and didn't want to see him lose. Prince deserves his place in the HOF so congrats to him.

Yeah he gave Mayweather the blueprint how to act out of the ring and if he had Floyd's work ethic and dedication he could have been an ATG.

At Featherweight I think he might have been able to stop pacquiao, would have been one hell of an exciting fight.

I think Mayweather would have handled him in a similar manner to how barrera fought him and taken a points win.

One of the biggest cross over stars ever, made a lot of money for a lot of little guys which is great, could have been a great if he stuck with the ingles instead of yes men.

Remember the speculation about him taking on Mayweather when Floyd was at super feather? I remember when Hamed turned pro with great fanfare. I was thinking - who is this geezer? What has he actually achieved? Why all the fuss? Obviously I found out later what all the fuss was about. He was really a one-off.

Here's a question. Do you think he would have been the same if he hadn't come from the Ingle's gym. I always thought they brought the best out of Hamed with their eccentric training methods and their whole approach to the pro game. A more orthodox background might have made him stand out less.

Yeh Pacquiao was vulnerable early and I think Naz would have stopped him inside 4, but it would be like a Hagler-Hearns in terms of excitement. Mayweather though had a great chin and defence so I think Floyd points would be a safe bet.

Morales was my favourite fighter out of all of them and I would have loved to have seen him against Naz and PBF.

Better to have retired too soon than gone on too long, although both eventualities engender criticism for boxers but when is the 'right' time?

manny was reckless back than, being reckless against prince, means there is high chance you getting knocked out. could ve gone ether way. prince had mad power. so did pac.

floyd would cetainly have danced and ran accross the ring and in by ud in mayweather tyle always boring fashion. but he would have had problems, caue prince was unorthodox

the man i loved and wish to see get beat, and when it finaly happened , i diddnt enjoy it, growing up in 90s i loved watching naz box,i cant remember what happened with the ingle stuff , i thought naz dropped Brendan before the berra fight and lost. think he would go down as one of my favourite boxers to watch of all time ,did not like the man,but that made it even better

I think that a better comparison to make is Sergio Martinez. They both had the hands down defensive style and both had remarkable power. Guys with that kind of defensive style Just need to slip a bit and the results are huge. When you spend you whole career using your reflexes to dodge punches instead of using the ear muffs, it doesn't take long before you start taking too many shots. Prince left at a perfect time. He couldn't dodge Barrera's punches and he knew. Smart guy. Got in. Made a killing and only took one mediocre beat down before calling it quits. Pretty genius if you ask me.

I think he was an over-hyped promotion pimped by HBO. All show no substance.

I was a Naz fan from his amateur days - when he was very very skinny & was a speed merchant rather than a knock out merchant.

I remember the day he turned pro & Boxing News proclaimed that he would be a World Champion at four weights - from around Flyweight to Feather (if I remember rightly ).

As Naz progressed & grew stockier & started banging people out I couldn't believe how different/good he was.

And here's where you'll start to think I am weird but I think as Naseem along the same lines at Tyson.

Tyson was a very good boxer - great jab & follow up combinations with excellent footwork. Naz, with a different style, still used his skills more than his KO power.

Each fighter had a threshold, in my humble opinion, where they crossed from box/puncher to powerpuncher.

Tyson was Spinks & Naz was Robinson. After each one they just went more for power than skill. Each still had odd glimpses of greatness but both generally underperformed after that.

And these views are based on me watching them all as they unfolded 25/30 years ago, not from recent viewings on Youtube so I apologise if I am foggy about any facts.
