There have been some great chins in boxing. Hagler, Holmes, McCall etc.

I was watching a highlight reel of Tommy Hearns and in particular the punch that he threw which poleaxed Duran.

If he caught the likes of Hagler, Holmes etc with that punch would they have stood up to it? or would they have gone the same way as Duran?

For me it was one of the most devastating punches I`ve ever seen land on someone`s chin. Middleweight, heavyweight or whatever, I don`t see how anyone could stand up to that sort of power/speed punch without hitting the deck.

And also if it wasnt for getting brutally KO'd by that 1 punch from Hearns,would Duran's chin be held in the same regard as Hagler,Holmes and Co??

Duran went in with some bangers himself

The pocket rocket had some chin. As did Calzaghe. Kessler (another good chin) caught him with a corker of an uppercut in their fight that would've put most to sleep. Froch is worth a mention too. Plus he knocked out George Groves in front of 80,000 people at Wembley Stadium

Haggler took some full bloodied shots from Hearns also and just gave em back. He looked immovable at times. Hard hard man.

Duran had a great chin. That`s what makes that punch all the more impressive. To his credit he wash`t out cold either.

Talking of Groves getting done by Froch, he actually recovered really well from such a punch. He was up before 10, although obviously in state to continue.

They were before my time unfortunately but I've watched lots of the four kings fights and it makes me quite jealous. Different class the four of them. I always warmed more to Leonard but he definitely got away with one against your boy Hagler

Don`´t get me started on that one. The hours I must have spent arguing that Hagler won that fight............

Close fight but Marvin should have got the nod against Leonard by two rounds.

He hit Hagler with a similar Right hand & didn't budge him: I think that's how he broke his hand.

I didnt score Leonard/Hagler but i didnt think it was the robbery everyone made out,i thought Marvin started off slow and took too long to get his shots off

I thought Leonard deserved it but i might need to score it to see,sometimes close fights scores can surprise you when you tally up the totals

Watch Hearns-Duran again. Duran eats an amazing number if right hands before he gets KO'd. It's not just one shot.

That was a great shot indeed. Lewis loved that uppercut on the inside.

I actually think that was Lewis' best performance. Not in terms of skill and ability shown of course but he showed so much more. It really made me a fan of his. He kept the pressure on Vitali and was willing to have to exchange punches to get his own off and that is what won him the fight. Exceptional performance because he was getting hit and hurt himself but I also think it shows the faith he had in Steward. He was willing to do whatever Steward told him in the ring and trusted Steward's opinion in this fight 100% and of course Steward was right - Vitali wasn't used to being pushed hard like that and it took it's toll - his face was a mess. I remember Steward saying Lewis was his favourite fighter to train because Lewis would do what he told him to do in fights. The Tyson fight is the only time I ever really saw Steward remonstrating with Lewis to do something and Lewis wasn't quite doing it (going for the KO) but I always thought Lewis had maximum respect for Tysons power - even a hurt Tyson. The way Steward was wording it was making him think even more "You're going to get caught with some crazy shit if you keep messing around like this" - kinda made Lewis even more cautious in a way. He eventually got him out of there though.

His performance in the Vitali fight was the opposite to what Fury did in the Klitschko fight. Fury languised on the outside and the fight was a borefest. The bookies had Vlad favourite after the bell just before the cards were announced. Lewis would never have let that happen.

I agree.
Might not have stood up but may have “got up”. Look at Carl Froch and George Groves.
The ones that come from outside your view will put out most fighters. There’s no such thing as a fighter that can’t be KO’d imo.
Even big lumps like Foreman and Lennox went.

That's exactly how I saw it too.

Hagler wasted a fair few rounds changing stance too and inexplicably (and probably stubbornly) continued to fight orthodox after having more success fighting southpaw.

at real mens weight , for chins steve collins, carl froch, in the smaller weights Erik Morales

Got to give a mention to James Toney. Never knocked out in 91 fights. It's probably been to his detriment in the long term but he had/has an incredible chin.

Even the noise sounded brutal.
Vitali getting stopped probably saved his career.
I dread to think how he'd of looked with 2 more rounds of damage.
