The A B C Game
Posted: 24 Apr 2016, 10:53
by keithmoonhangover
Hello fellas. Hopefully this thread will give us some interesting posts.
This is how the game works. The first poster selects their team of fighters in the below divisions, all with surnames beginning with A. The second posters team must be all B's, then C's, D's etc in the following posts.
Heavyweight
Light Heavyweight
Middleweight
Welterweight
Lightweight
The person posting C's (and then onwards) decides on the winner of the previous fights and matches his team against the winners.
Example: He picks the winners of all five fights of A's vs B's and lets us know which team is the overall winner. Team A won 3 fights to 2, so he matches his Team C against Team A. Same for Team D, E and onwards.
Rules.
1. First results are final.
2. The match ups are purely head-to-head and not based on records.
3. Your teams must have a cool nickname.
4. The more name calling. bitching and slagging each other off the better!!
5. All boxers must use their last known boxing name (Ali, not Clay etc)
6. Boxers can only be used in one division.
7. All boxers are based on their prime at that weight.
I will start us off.......
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Team A (The Second Hand Electric Donkey Bottom Biters)
Heavyweight - Ali
Light Heavyweight - Dennis Andries
Middleweight - Canelo Alverez
Welterweight - Henry Armstong
Lightweight - Lou Ambers.

I'll take one for the team and get the ball rolling with the B's. Not many recent ones so had to take a bit of time and go to the past.
Team B (Team this took a good 10 minutes of flicking through boxrec)
Heavyweight - Riddick Bowe
Light Heavyweight - Jimmy Bivins
Middleweight - Charley Burley
Welterweight - Carmen Basilio
Lightweight - Ken Buchanan

H - Ezzard Charles
LH - Billy Conn
M - Marcel Cerdan
W - Don Curry
L - Tony Canzoneri

Actually though I reckon team C beats teams A and B 3-2 and 4-1

Think you were supposed to pick between A and B, then just name your team for C. But I agree beats both (with some hesitation against A), so I will say C wins.
Here is my team team D:
Heavy -Jack Dempsey
Light Heavy- Jack Delaney
Middle -Nonpareil Jack Dempsey
Welter - Oscar De La Hoya
Lightweight- Roberto Duran
So I believe the next person should say who would win between C and D, then name their own team E.

quite right. As a matter of interest though I reckon team C emerges victorious once again. Dempsey would porb beat charles, Conn would beat delaney, Cerdan to beat the non p jd and curry to beat odl. Duran would beat Canzoneri. I reckon what makes team C strong is Curry. He hasn't got the career of other guys and ive been somewhat critical of him on these forums but at his prime, he takes some beating :)

Would Dempsey beat Charles though? thinking about it further it's a tough fight for him :) #TeamC

Good work mate...I wimped out on the 'B' category as Keith had my head-spinning
But perhaps it would be Nino Benvenuti at middle for me.

I guess I'm the only one with enough balls to tackle the dreaded "E".
Heavyweight: Jimmy Ellis
Lt. Heavyweight: Zsoldt Erdei (Jesus...)
Middleweight: Chris Eubank
Welterweight: Angel Espada/Crisanto Espana
Lightweight: Frank Erne
Well, that was painful.

That was a noble attempt by King Carlos to put together a team E.
I guess team C are still the "champions" then.
H - Ezzard Charles
LH - Billy Conn
M - Marcel Cerdan
W - Don Curry
L - Tony Canzoneri
The letter F has much more talent. (Had to leave out Frazier, Fitzsimmons, and Fullmer)
I will submit the following for team F:
H - George Foreman
LH - Bob Foster
M- Tiger Flowers
W - Barbadoes Joe Walcott
L- Ancelino Frietas

Charles vs Foreman is touch to call. Charles' style ain't great for George, but Foreman catches him, hurts him and wins.
I'll take Foster over Conn, but again, it's a touch one, but Foster walks away with a UD.
Cerdan all day long over Flowers. There is no substitute for class.
Curry detonates Walcott early. Skill, speed and power.
2-2 going into the last match and it's Canzoneri by decision.
The C Team retain, but they haven't walked into the monster team of G's yet, who will p1ss all over them......
Team G (The Good, The Bad and The Fat)
H - Galento
LH - Tommy Gibbons
M - Harry Greb
w - Emile Griffith
L - Joe Gans

Woo team G look very dangerous!
Ok well charles outclasses Galento easy
Conn would outpoint Gibbons
Greb beats anyone lol - would be a great fight with cerdan but got to be greb
Griffith vs Curry - this is crazy but again im going for curry here. I think at his best he'd have enough for a points win
Gans would beat canzoneri somehow
i think that means team C are still the champions. however, team H....
H- Evander holyfield
LH - John Henry Lewis
M- Marvin Hagler
W - Carlos Hernandez
L - Erm ...babe herman lol

J
HW - Jack Johnson
LHW - Harold Johnson
MW - Roy Jones Jr

I think team C are still undefeated but Im worried about these two new teams.
Id have to pick jack johnson to beat ezzard charles, Conn vs johnson is a real close one - im going conn, jones would beat cerdan i think and Curry wins yet again to make it 2-2 - all down to the last fight and again it's close but i think canzoneri wins for a 3-2 win for C?
