Talking of a mix of MMA/Boxing.

McGreggor v Floyd would sell massively in a ring - Easy nights work for Floyd, with all the hypers, and plastic paddy's bumping this one right up the PPV sales, breaking all PPV records again in the process. Both same weight & height. Very sellable.

I would watch being a fan of both sports.

In an MMA fight, McGregor would absolutely destroy Floyd, WTF are you on about?

Floyd would have no idea how to defend kicks or takedowns.

In a boxing match you'd expect Floyd to win easily.

For years it was said that boxers couldn't hang with MMA fighters, the truth is we've yet to see what would really happen if a world level boxer who was still in his prime stepped in the Octagon. Obviously it should just be a quick takedown & a quick win for the MMA fighter but for those throwing about Randy Couture beating James Toney in such a manner I could counter with Ray Mercer who KO'd Tim Sylvia (Former multiple time UFC Heavyweight champion) in seconds in an MMA match.

Conor did just get beaten up whilst standing by Nate Diaz who whilst a good striker by MMA standards is hardly an elite level boxer & before that Conor's impressive UFC run has been in part due to him cutting excessive weight to give him a huge advantage to fight a division full of what he has repeatedly called "midgets". All his losses are when that significant size advantage has been taken away from him & he can't bully fighters around.

Holly Holm (a boxer) did a superb job on the "unbeatable" Ronda Rousey who was exposed as a one dimensional grappler with pitiful striking due to Holly's footwork & punching.

However as for Amir in an MMA fight I can't see that ever happening although good to see he's got career options ready for after he gets destroyed on Saturday!

Conor was submitted whilst on the floor. Ok, he did look like he went to ground to avoid the decking he was getting, but he tapped out due to a submission.

I can't see any elite fighter going into the Octagon any time soon, for the simple reason that they could make more money in boxing, for less risk.

You might get a recently retired boxer who was elite level not long before doing it.

Yes, Mercer did indeed whack Sylvia out.

So thats what fans of McGregor are called, are they?....

I daren't ask how you would describe fans of Amir Khan or Tyson Fury...

Ray mercer did Ko the not that great Tim Sylvia, but he did get beaten by ordinary Kimbo Slice, and quit against Remy Bonjansky in 22 seconds....

But as you say, we haven't seen an In their prime top boxer do MMA. They were all way over the hill. But as Holly Holm showed, if you put in a few years' work, a boxer can do well.

Otherwise, I guess it's either 'boxer bangs MMA guy out with first shot' or 'boxer misses first shot and gets taken down and submitted'....

Talking from experience here, so don't try and assume I am being racist.

I had 3, English-born, Irish decent lads, tell me how good this Connor McGreggor is. None had ever seen him fight, one even said "he fights UFC fighting" ffs !!. They were just simply jumping on the bandwagon because he's Irish. Plastic Paddy's.

Why, does that offend you? Are you one yourself?

I don't know how relevant Holm is the discussion of other boxers transitioning to MMA. Her background is very atypical. She has been the personal protege of a Mike Winklejohn (a former world kickboxing champion who co-runs, arguably, the world's premier MMA camp) for years. Her introduction to combat sports was when she began taking a kickboxing class with Winkeljohn in 1998, and she's been hanging out with the best MMA fighters in the world for years. There's actually a Jackson/Winkeljohn team photo from about ten years ago and she's in it.

Also, as good as Holm is she lost a decision last night because she got outstruck in an MMA fight by former Muay-Thai world champion Valentina Shevchenko.

I think the main barrier is money. Why would Amir take a £200,000 payday instead of £5 million...

I do believe that a top boxer with 1-3 years jujitsu would be extremely dangerous.

Apparently, for example, David Haye and Enzo Maccarinelli are very good ju jitsu fighters and if that's true, I believe they would roll through the mma guys.

Of course you take a clueless boxer and dump him in an MMA fight he will lose as soon as he misses the first shot....

At the moment there is not enough money to tempt a top boxer in his prime to mma.

Mayweather and McGregor will never fight. It's all publicity. Mayweather would stop macregor in a round or two on a boxing fight... But Connor would stop Floyd in a coulple of minutes under MMA rules

I dont think floyd would stop mcgregor at all tbh but mcgregor would definitley stop mayweather. Its like sayin who is better marvel or d.c? Two totally different sports and tgere is a market for both.

Define 'very good' - some of the MMA guys have been doing BJJ for 20 years or more, the thing about MMA, is that there's always a style that beats someone as there are so many possible moves. You see it all the time, really dominant MMA fighters suddenly get their asses kicked by a guy that people thought had little or no chance.

Look at Michael Bisping and Frankie Edgar, both huge upsets against seemingly dominant champs, nobody saw those results coming. Look at the merry go round in the Women's bantamweight class.

A boxer would of course be a very good striker, but they wouldn't be able to fight out of the same stance, or they would get their front leg smashed to pieces. Their power would therefore be somewhat reduced, and their balance would be off.

It would be interesting to see a recently retired elite fighter compete in MMA, but I think it is pretty unlikely.

.

No they haven't. 20 years? A very very few. Look at the success Lesnar had - he hadn't done any Jiu Jitsu or even boxing and won the title in 3 fights I think. Mma is very Complex and unpredictable.... And of course guys like Toney with no experience get dominated. But if it was Haye facing couture with his Jiu jitsu knowledge? I honestly think David Ko1. It's not about David being better at Jiu jitsu than couture; it's about him knowing what situations NOT to indulge in. And boxing whilst avoiding a takedown.

Haye hits any Mma fighter with a in and they're done.

There are guys in MMA who are now in their late 30's, 40's who will have been studying BJJ for 20 years without a doubt. Especially Brazilians, who will have grown up with it.

Yes but Lesnar was an exceptional wrestler, wrestling along with BJJ is one of the most important bases to have to supplement striking.

Until we see someone of Haye's age and experience move over, we won't know for sure.
