Official/unofficial commissions and licensing

Genuine query. Any sensible replies appreciated.

Having been following the messy saga of the MBC vs BBBoC / EBU, etc, and having only just seen the 'unofficial commissions' thread, I'd like to ask (opinions):

1. What makes a commission official?

2. Is Boxrec only accepting Euro commissions as recognised by the EBU?

3. If I have UK boxers licensed from outside of the UK, for example, a recognised non-European commission, does anyone know if Boxrec and the BBBoC would accept this?

I know this may seem like regurgitating old posts, if you feel that way then please just be respectful and ignore this post and move on.

Many thanks

Dave

We are no longer accepting information from some European commissions pending a meeting of the EBU in June.

These include amongst others:
Baltic Boxing Team
Baltic League of Professional Boxing
Latvian Professional Boxing Federation
Lithuanian Professional Boxing League
Malta Boxing Commission
National Association of Professional Boxing in the Republic of Moldova
Pro-Box Bosnia y Hercegovina

------

What power does the EBU have over National Federations/Commissions? It portrays itself as a 'championship sanctioning organisation', which is not a governing body, yet it has great influence over national commissions somehow. And it seems has great influence over Boxrec.

It's all a conflict of interest and from what I'm seeing, is NOT in the BEST interest of boxing's development.

Good luck getting a sensible reply

As ive just seen someone say on Facebook : Boxrec is just a website, pro boxing existed over 100 years before boxrec and managed just fine, its doesnt need boxrecs permision to exist now either. boxrec can post whatever results they choose to, but no one will care as they cant produce genuine meaningful world rankings etc when not all world boxers are included.

Slightly off topic but theres at least 4 commissions/bodies in Korea (the KBC, KBF, KBA, KBPF) and that hasn't helped the sport at all. It's a mess over there without strong guidance and with different bodies having different affiliations (I.e. The JBC work a fair bit with the KBF, the KPBF seem to have a very good relationship with the PABA).

Should be noted that as a result there are a lot of incomplete Korean records on here.

So - If everyone is in kind of agreement that Boxrec is just an internet site as is many others out there... Then what's all the fuss about ?

And does anyone have a leg to stand on if they instruct their lawyers to prepare legal action against Boxrec on the grounds of restrictive actions for not listing events or results ?

No idea of the legal side but i would guess a website can list whatever it wants as long as its not claiming it all to be fact.

Personally i think unless boxrec claimed to be the official records keeper (or implied it) then theres nothing legally to be done. But im no lawyer.

The fuss is simply boxers like a place to reference and to point people to, for a sponsor for example to show them their record, in the current situation thats not a possibility and is therefore costing boxers money, so i can understand their frustration, especially as i train one of such boxers.

This might be a 1st... But I'm in total agreement with you.

Thanks for the replies - and keeping it sensible! :)

I think BoxRec itself is a great resource for checking up on popular fighters. Granted, it's never going to be perfect, it's rare that free resources are ever 100% accurate. If FightFax didn't charge, i'd also look at theirs too.

I was hoping that an admin would help out here, as i am sure that most, if not all, members of this forum would be keen to note what could be the reasoning behind not accepting certain commissions - ie the one's listed at the top.

There aren't a dozen sites as influential as BoxRec.

Your correct there , but its still a internet boxing site , not a commision

I read the post that nothing will be posted from the list of commissions, yet tonight I have noticed that there is a post on a show in Latvia from the Baltic Boxing Team for a show tomorrow night? 14th May. This is a strange rule for one.

Why is there the Latvian show listed, despite it being one of the so called unofficial commisions, ive just checked, its definately there....

Be honest wih us, whats your motive ?

Joke of a site, cant take anything listed seriously, no less corrupt than the majority of the Alphabet soup

Iv also noticed they put shows up that are not even sanctioned full stop!! Korea is a good shout because they have put up results from them but then say there unsanctioned- why even recognise them then?? The problem is clearly shows in England that arnt bbbofc but they put some other commissions in to try look like that's not the reason

I dont get why boxrec dont be impartial to any boxer anywhere. As boxrec is not a governing body i think as a reference internet site it should show listings and records of any professional boxer. Whether people like a body or not a internet reference site should stand apart from any body and do a job in listing any reference from a professional sport.

My thinking is i go to a newspaper stand and buy a daily rag, i want honest impartil articles to read. I wouldnt expect a reputable newspaper to bar anything from one political party, thats not really fair or democratic in a country of free speech. Being a dictatorship only seperates opinions from people who have a voice and silences them which is unfair.

Even though Boxrec isnt an official record keeper i find it quite sad that they only choose what to record. Being inpartial is the correct way to go.

Worth noting that they DON'T list the show this coming weekend in Korea (a KBA show headlined by a WBA/WBF title fight)

The Baltic Boxing Team show was clearly advertised in on the Latvian Schedule last night, the results were also posted after the contest.

So Amir khan is running a show on the 2nd June In Pakistan with haroon Khan headlining. I've seen that MBC licensed boxers have been asked to be on it.
Now what happens with this? Will they get listed and if so isn't that a massive inconsistency where they can box under a commissions license on a foreign commissions show but not get listed if they fight under their own commission
