If Khan retired now

What do people think? I thought he would've won titles in a couple of weight divisions. He's been his own worst enemy at times with the way he fights and stalling his career etc... 9 times out of 10 he's exciting to watch though. Not held a world title in years now and only picked up two (I think) at the one weight (140).
He's a well off young guy with a young family and he'll never want for anything. He could walk away now and still be able to look back and be proud but I reckon he'd have the old 'what if' questions hanging over him. How do you guys see it?

Really has to seriously think about retiring after last nite. Hes just doesnt have the boxing brain for the top level of boxing. I d fancy brook etc to beat him now. Theblueprints been there from the start how to beat him. Although hes learned some new tricks under hunter he d need a brain transplant to make a real difference.
Not a jibe on khan he just doesnt have a boxing brain. Weather its his concentration or failing to adapt or failing to see things happening in a ring. Plus his chins just not good enough for that level. Nearly everything that lands flush makes his legs react. The punch resistants just not there on a consistant basis.
Khan ruined his own career. I still say he was more effective under roach. Khan should have been boiling down much like canelo does and coming into the ring bigger and stronger that his opponents. His speed/reach would have overwhelmed most. Its about the best chance he would have had of fighting and competing with the top level with the flaws he has.

It must be very very hard to bring the hands back to the chin when you’re trying to fight at the same time...that’s all I’ve got to say. Judging by the number of fights that end in this type of way. Last night was particularly shocking. Really he should have met Brook in London, but I can see why he opted for Canelo but really he shouldn’t have been anywhere near him.
Matching a man at 155lbs the day before doesn’t mean a damn thing.
I also think that Floyd looks good here because he will also have been naturally a stone or so lighter and Floyd......well....... made it look effortless, the big freak

Overachieved. He's a fast-hand show pony who has picked up a couple of world titles against some very good fighters, beat Kotelnik, Maidana. Also made 7 figures in his career. Given how limited he actually is he's went a long way.

Khan should definitely retire soon.... He wasn't the sharpest pencil in the case; he should retire whilst he still has a marbles.... And he didn't start life with a particularly big bag of marbles in his swede in the first place....

Khan has consistently been one of the most entertaining fighters in the last 10 years or so. But I must say I think he's over achieved - it was obvious to anyone with eyes that he has always been ridiculously chinny, it's actually amazing he's managed to box at the top level for so long considering his purest glass jaw.

Under achieved possibly, just - been caught flush because of his style - I dont think he has a glass chin / jaw
I scored the Peterson fight in his favour
4 losses and he has been fighting infrequently

Sorry, but I genuinely don't understand how anyone could have followed Khan's career and not think he has a glass jaw

Whenever he has been KO'ed he has been caught absolutely flush
He stood up to Maidana who is a P4P banger

He also got put down for longer than a 10 count by Limond (not exactly known for his destructive power), and got badly hurt by a jab from Prescott within about 20 seconds of the opening bell before being annihilated a minute later. Not to mention all the other knockdowns he's suffered over the years.
Khan is an enjoyable fighter to watch, but let's not get carried away. I'd be interested to hear who you think does have a glass jaw, if Khan doesn't?

Depends when you decided what he would achieve. After the 2004 Olympics? When he was floored by Limond? When Prescott stopped him? After he beat Kotelnik? etc. Most boxers end up with a loss. I think he should be satisfied to have won a world title, been in some exciting fights and earned a lot of money.

That is a very good point. One performance changes people's perception. I guess the saying is 'you're only as good as your last fight'

I agree
I often see the claim that it's really his defense and not his chin, but there are so many cases of him being hurt--by guys who aren't notable bangers and by shots that don't look anything special--that his fragility should be clear. Him getting through a period of being badly hurt and all over the place against Maidana doesn't offset all the other cases where he showed poor resistance.

Khan has poor defence, which leaves him open to being hurt, but he also has a poor chin, and poor powers of recovery. When I say poor, I of course mean that relatively, compared to the best in the divisions he fought in.

I think he has probaly over achieved given his poor defence and weak chin. He could have and possibly shluld have had more defeats (limond) but he a decent record, 2x world champion, been in some brilliant fights (maidana) and hes made his millions.
The arguement of chin v defence i thinks its both and also he wants to macho and stand and trade if he is caught. The signs for his garcia fight were shown in the pre fight build uo when freddie kept throwing the left hook as khan was throwing and telling him to get a hand back and up...... the same shot that garcia finished him with. This pre fight build up virgil hunter was urging him to learn.
Thats been khans problem for me. All 3 factors.

Totally agree.
Khan threw a pawing half-jab, Canelo slid to his left, and Khan left his chin hanging out to dry, then as Canelo began uncorking that huge straight right, Khan started winding up a left hook, he didn't even seem to have his eyes open at that point. It was reckless and left him totally defenceless, as has happened so many times.

Overachiever for me.
Did very well despite his poor technical ability & less than stellar chin.

If Khan retired now.... maybe he will still have his faculties.
You can't use money to buy back your health.
It takes one little bleed and a boxer's life changes forever.

I'd agree. Traded on his physical gifts, and never really learnt how to be tight enough defensively to win at top level.

I hope Team Khan take one long hard look at themselves & think carefully about what they do next.
They've got their big payday that they were all probably angling for, so they should do the decent thing & stop putting Khan's health at risk for their enrichment.
Most will say it was Khan's choice & that is correct, but boxers sometimes need saving from themselves: as their egos are so large, they'd go up against King Kong, Godzilla & the Cloverfield monster in the same night & think they could win.

Yes, he must be financially secure by now, and he must realise that his ambitions must be tempered by his limitations.
Perhaps one last big fight, maybe brook, which I'd expect him to lose probably in the same fashion. I think Garcia will likely beat him again if they meet, and in the same fashion.

I'm sure I read in the guardian that Khan didn't get as much as first thought. His fee was $2.5m and then he'll have a few additions on top.
That's half what was originally quoted

He's met expectations.
When he turned pro I expected him to be world champion.
Fair play to the lad he aimed for greatness and showed no fear but he fell just short.
For a short period he was the best LWW on the planet. Anyone who gets to number 1 in a division can't be named a under-achiever.

My view also. Arguably the best super light weight for a short period. In some fantastic fights that always provided great entertainment. He always put it on the line. Yes he is susceptible to decent hitters.
My expectations are completely irrelevant, he can only be measured against his own objectives and personal standards/targets. As a fight fan I've never felt let down by Amir Khan, only ever been entertained by the man. I doff my hat to him.
