I don't understand this entry in Wikipedia:

"This division was established in 1962, when the Austrian Board of Control recognized a fight between Nicko Sabong and Teddy Wright for the "world" championship. The fight, which took place on October 17, was won by Griffith via a 15 round decision."

Obviously some form of misprint at Wikipedia. Someone reading something from a different page. I always knew of the Griffith-Wright fight, but for the fun of it I looked up Nicko Sabong on boxrec and he doesn't exist. So who knows what they were looking at.

It wasnt really the created by that fight. The WBA created the title and a fight between Moyer and Giambra was signed for it. The promotion in Austria was staged three days before the Moyer-Giambra fight but was trying to piggy back on that notion of a new title and steal the WBAs thunder.
