So who do you think had the best build in boxing history? I'm thinking Ken Norton hands down. But Evander Holyfield, Marvin Hagler, Cleveland Williams also come to mind.

Emile Griffith had the biggest shoulders I've ever seen for a waist so small.

Carmen Basillio was pretty well built. Agree with Griffith, he'd be called a juicer today.

You wouldn't notice unless Corrie Sanders was in it.

Hardly. Everyone commented on the likes of Frank Bruno's physique when he was active. Old boys at the gym always went on about Norton. Joshua's talked about the same way. Hence my mention of juicers :OhYes:

I always remember seeing Basillio v Robinson when I was young and thinking I wanted to be built as good as Basillio when I'm older. He was a beast at WW.

Bradley always looks like he's trained for a year solid and had an immaculate diet.

I had always thought that World Heavyweight Champion Primo Carnera had an astounding physique.
Never seen anything like it.
He must have had some throwback gene to the time
the late Cro-Magnon man Hunter/Gathers of Europe transformed into farmers around ten thousand years ago.
sort of like a "Manster"

Today he would probably be accused of being on the juice, roids, human growth serman
and anything else to give a person a physcically avantage through modern chemisty

Another old old tyme boxer who would have appeared to have had a modern day (A.D 1950)
body builders physique would have been
Al Kaufman of San Francisco.
who had fought Jack Johnson and later became his chief sparring partner.
He was really ripped and cut
most have the heavyweight fighters back then seem to have had a layer of subcuteous fat on them no matter how hard they trained
and had their weight down.
Maybe Al Kaufman had a different diet back then, then most fighters ?
He sort of reminded me of the body building cultures that started in California after WW II
and produced individuals like Steve Reeves.
Perhaps Al Kaufman was just ahead of his time.

Sugar Ray Robinson had the best physique in Fistic History... I actually don't think Robinson was that dedicated or hard a trainer. He wasn’t body conscious at all. I never ONCE saw Robinson in the classic “body builder biceps pose” that everyone does standing on the scales. George Gainford said Robinson was a bit embarrassed about his body. He thought he had puny looking arms compared to some of the guys he fought. He never lifted weights, which boxers were told NOT to do in those days. He lost fights to guys like Basilio, Fuller, Ralph Jones, Turpin, Maxim, and seemed to "phone it in" for some fights like Roberto Duran did after he got rich. But SRR always looked in shape. He had a magnificently natural "boxer's body" with long smooth muscles, perfect symmetry and proportion… A length of arms, legs, neck, and torso that was perfect for a middleweight… He had no flaws in his shoulders, chest, neck, arms, legs, waist or back. He looked the part of a boxer in every way.

The absolute worst physique I’ve ever seen on an undefeated World Ranked boxer is that of Heavyweight Andy Ruiz... No matter how hard Ruiz trains he says his body doesn’t seem to change... The fat isn’t coming off. The muscles aren’t coming in. The marshmallow look just doesn’t go away. Eddie Hearn wanted to give Andy Ruiz a shot at Joshua, but said. “When I looked at the photos and footage of his fights there’s no way. I’d catch Hell for having this guy fight Joshua. He has a great record and is undefeated and everything, but he doesn’t look the part.”

Somehow I don't think a bigger chest and more lats would have made him a better boxer.
