short list of guys with elite talent and poor training attitude. who couldve be the best boxer had he trained like floyd and pac, training hardcore 100 % every single fight.

to me its zab. dude was more athletic, faster and a bigger puncher than floyd. zab was just naturaly elite. but his hip hop trash talk stupid mentality and poor training kept him of being would he couldve become, an top 20, maybe even top 10 boxer atg. think about it, zab was winning on points against floyd, had he won against floyd his career would have taken a totaly different outcome. had he trained like young tyson zab would have had much easier wins, he would have cruised to wins, just because he was so quick and hard to touch.

It wasn't training that stopped Zab from beating Floyd it was talent/ring IQ. You could see the proof that he was physically capable of it but Floyd adjusted and Zab couldn't.

This has to be Toney, because he had the biggest discrepancy between talent and work ethic ever seen. Solis belongs on the list too and perhaps an honourable mention for Jermaine Taylor.

Wilfred Benetiz apparently wasn't the greatest of trainers, probably one of the greatest talents ever.

Why is De La Hoya on here? He seemed to be very well trained in his prime.

Ricky Hatton comes to mind. He used to drink heavily, party hard and balloon up between fights. Similar to Fury.

I voted Toney, but I don't think he was the most talented of the group, just the most "not trained enough."

The Prince would have been a very good pick as well.

Certainly not number 1, but I have to give Marcos Maidana a shout. Could've made some great fights after Floyd at 147

I think all those guys trained very hard. Maybe not for every fight but you dont reach the top level without hardcore training.

Judah and Oscar(sturm excluded) were both always in shape. Zab just suffered from unrealistic expectations that never went away. He was one of the most consistent fighters you'll ever come across. I think oscar's low ring IQ made it appear like he faded in fights when the reality was that he just couldn't make the adjustments.

Good shout. He made a bit of money and called it quits... That's pathetic. A true champ would never do that; Floyd, Pac, Ward, GGG, et al. never seem to be out of shape - regardless of their financial situation.

James toney no doubt. How does a 5'10 fat guy with short arms move up from middle weight and embarrasses heavies with his slick movement and avoids getting knocked out?

Now I read it back I think I wrote it in the wrong sentence. It was a joke, but for those who didn't understood I'd liked to make that extra clear by denying what I said immedietly, since I'm not a boxing talent. But now I read it back it sounds like I said I wasn't kidding about it.

Either way, I've done it on school many years ago, but was only allowed to hit the body back then and had to hit the opponend out of a small square. After about 3 guys I was completely destroyed and stopped.
I had the strength and the very low body fat, but not the reach and stamina. So I probably wouldn't have been that good.

hoya peaked in hi career, unlike prince or zb. thats true.

but at times he traine very poorly, when onl 32 or so against sturm for example

after rethinking i voted prince. dude had elite power, was so athletic, but hated training hard and push himself, i remember him trining for barrerea, in the documntary, it was joke, dude wasnt even running for his condition as i remember, he simply gave 60 % at best. compared to the trainings attitude of pac who does like 1000 reps for the abs alone, prince raining was awful
