Just a bit emtirgued as to why they stopped and how they worked in the first place.

How much was ticket cost?

Was the pro purse the same?

Who promoted it - amateur club or pro club?

Was the cost of running a show more or less due to 2 lots of judges and refs.

The pros and ams were effectively forbidden from working together.

All that changed when Khan won a silver medal and a promoter had the idea of putting him on a show with pros.

It all changed back when soon after Khan turned pro.

The Board and their principles eh?

Do a search on this site - there was a debate on this issue not so long ago.

Its nothing to do with the board the ams created the rule to stop it happining.I did two pro am shows in bham Board were happy with it and helped make it work. The amatuer association then brought in a rule saying you couldnt do two shows in same day in same place to stop it happining.

I did two pro am shows. It worked well.

As jonp said the hirearchy of the amateurs put a stop to it.

Just like they do with amateur trainers having nothing to do with professional boxers.

They really are in the dark ages.

Thanks Jon and Charles - doesn't surprise me, the ABAE are worse than the Board.

They don't mind am/pro gyms with trainers being used interchangeably - eg. McCracken and Froch etc. using the amateur facilities in Sheffield (do they get this for free I wonder ?).

I am not saying that this isn't a good idea, it is just that it contradicts everything else they say/do.

Also, what about amateur officials doing the various white collar stuff - not to mention the "celebrity" boxing such as the Ricky Gervais / Grant Bovey mega fight.

Though McCracken trains the elite Amateurs in Sheffield, he still not allowed to corner them, whilst he is a pro trainer. When McCracken stops training Froch or any other Pro, he should be able to do the corner of the Ams. Now that the Ams have decided that Pros can compete at the Olympics, it puts a new twist on the whole thing.

Not even the ABA this one, AIBA are responsible for it, or Dr Wu to be more exact.

Been banned completely by AIBA now, same for the cornermen, they want a complete separation of amateurs and pros. Although they were willing to let Katie Taylor box on the Lee-Saunders undercard in Limerick, for a fee.

I'm wondering if AIBA-Pro will work alongside the Board/EBU or whoever else, to create mixed-sanctioned shows? Would the BBBoC permit an AIBA-Pro licensed boxer onto their shows?

BBBofc wont allow it, pro bouts not sanctioned by themselves ... dont be daft... they think they have a battle on with MBC, well that is nothing compared to AIBA who have a bit more muscle to compete in the law field.

I don't imagine that mixed shows will ever take place, even if they were allowed by the bodies, what would be the benefit / Why would a promotor want to?
The BBBoC probably would allow an AIBA-Pro boxer to take part in a BBBoC contest, however I suspect that AIBA would not as the intention is to create an entire separate world in which they are the single body.

Who knows what could happen if Pros fight at the Olympics ? Many countries have mixed bouts for Pro boxing, K1, Thai boxing and even MMA on the same bills, it makes money, draws in the crowds, Warren was looking to do it a while back.

I think if the BBBoC decided not to recognise AIBA-Pro's, then it would be an almighty PR cock up. You can't deny aiba's credibility, whether it's their new pro division or other. I'm keen to see how AIBA-Pro goes about things in the UK.

I'm in favour of mixed shows, always have been. There's audiences for mixed and solo-discipline events so why not?

Pro's in the Olympics, I'm unsure what my opinions are on this. I think it's a kick in the teeth for amateurs thatve worked hard for no pay, to only be told that they're up against seasoned pro's who are paid fortunes to fight. I'm wondering if AIBA-Pro is going to be the monopoly licence-issuing body for Olympic boxing or not?

I think it could fizzle out after the Olympics, it is just the AIBA trying to get a bigger chunk of the pie, whilst sticking up two fingers to their own members.

I agree with the point with olympics but to think amatuers are working hard for no pay is not exactly right most Gb guys are on better money than 80 percent of the pros
