G'day Scotty, how have you been mate? I seen these two fight in 2000, I think, it was on an 8 man knockout tourny, went to the fourth round after being all tied up after three, great fight! Is this upcoming fight full Thai rules?

They are 1-1 from their previous meetings years ago from memory. Has all the makings of a great contest.

I assume this means Dawson is done with boxing?

Just looked it up and im really looking forward to it jwp would have too be a big favourite.

JWP will start favourite. Surely Dawson wouldn't have fought with his feet for years.

IMHO, both should consider, there's a life beyond days in the ring. Neither have got to prove their combat ability.
Check their knees. As they age, they' ll suffer. as will ankles

I think the main problem for both of them is that they've been full time professional fighters since they were both about 18.

Parr made his boxing debut at 22, to help the promoter, who had all sorts of problems with the card. He's been kicking lot longer than that. I think he spent fair bit of time in Thailand, as there wasn't great deal of kicking in Oz in those days.

There was plenty of kicking in those days, but not much with knees, elbows and throws. The other thing was no kickboxing, even as an am. In most of Aus. under 18 (although, from memory, they could fight under 18 in QLD as well as fight full Muay Thai) JWP came into the game near the end of the halcyon days, it was and still is, a dream to live, train and fight in Thailand for serious kickboxers.

Both men are absolute legends of the ring, fighting all rules, all opponents thrown at them and fighting up in weight if they had to. Successfully.

I think it's a shame that Dawson switched over to boxing because at his best which at 23 wouldn't have been his physical peak anyway he was better than anyone I remember from Australia. His kicking game was beautiful, I recently watched his fight with Andy Sower which was close and maybe could've gone his way and I had forgotten how good he was back then. I was there live when he tooled Zambidis in Melbourne and it was extremely impressive especially for someone who was barely training kickboxing at that stage as well. In my opinion he is the best fighter Australia has ever produced, it's a shame MMA wasn't bigger in Aus when he was younger as if he was looking for more money which I expect is why he switched to boxing he probably could've gone on to be a top fighter in the UFC if not the champ.

Watching the fight now, I'm not sure why Dan let Parr crowd him with punches. I'm sure anyone who has seen JWP knows what I'm talking about he marches forward swinging sloppy punches which works well for him. I'm just surprised that it worked against Dan who I expected to line him up with a big counter if he did that.

Mate, if we're talking complete fighters then Dawson is one of our finest but you can't overlook JWP (I reckon Dawson's got the edge there) but both of them would have to prove themselves against Tosca Pefridis, Darren Hedgecock, Adam Watt, Alex Tui and Dale Westerman.

Speaking of complete fighters and sure he didn't do it in a complete fashion by using everything but I was shocked how badly Toby Smith destroyed JWP by using the clinch.
