Can Brandon Rios improve @ ww due harder training?
Can Brandon Rios improve @ ww due harder training?
it seems he is still thirsty for boxing and wants to give his all. with robert it got to a point were they were more friends than trainer and boxer and surely he wasnt giving 100 % in training, to much fooling around. i have a feeling he will improve now with change of trainer, how would a tip top shape rios do against the best ww, i am not even talking the best thurman & spence, but how would he do aginst danny garcia, amir khan or jessie vargas, still great money fights, i think he would actualy have a chance. 30 is a perfect age for a boxer, if he trains to the limit, than he can be a top 7 ww. what ya think?
Re: Can Brandon Rios improve @ ww due harder training?
I think if he wants to use the brain power he has left, he'd stay out of the ring. But it's probably all he knows.

i mean he surely made around 6 million boxing pac and alvarado triology, thats enough for your whole life if you aint a waster who needs a new exotic car every month. but the main question is, can he handle the top ww, even if he trains harder and comes primed up, or is he simply d level at ww.

he seems to want to fight ortiz, especially after ortiz-berto. rios' problem is not training
camp as much as in between camps. training camp is not supposed to be for out of shape
people. top level guys are never supposed to get out of shape. they are supposed to
always be doing roadwork and exercises and watch what they eat, even when they
aren't training. training camp gets elite guys already in great shape into fight shape,
but the main focus of camp is to prepare specifically for that opponent. after the bradley
fight, rios was talking about how his wife had to yell at him to train and how hard mentally
it was to get back in shape during camp. to me, that can only mean that he gets so out of
shape that he isn't even mentally strong enough for camp. that mental anxiety from training
comes from being out of condition. if he came into camp already in good shape he isn't
going to feel emotionally like like he doesn't want to do it. if he isn't willing to live the life
then he should stay retired. he has the ability to poach another title if he can get down to 140.
i think there are top 10 welters he might beat. sometimes i felt like the only guy on this
board who believed in the guy. rios is way better than people here give him credit for.
his training camps will be 1000x better if he comes into camp ready to prepare for his
opponent instead of needing camp just to get into shape and make weight. maybe he
could hire a dietician to teach his wife exactly what to eat and how much of it year round,
and find someone to run and exercise with between fights. coming into camp lean and
ready should light the fire again. losing to bradley is not the worst thing in boxing.
i keep hearing maidana is coming back but maybe not at welter. rios v berto, guerrero,
what's left of alexander, ali, even vargas or khan, i think would all be more competitive
than most here would think at 147. at 140, the wba is vacant and if you put rios in with
provo, matthysse, algieri, herrera and a few others you could have fireworks. it all depends
on rios getting serious and not just looking for one last paycheck.

You can't teach discipline, and until rios gains it he will never be more than a B level punching bag.

Yes Rios could beat Broner if he's in shape and ready to go.Chepppaaa wrote:can a in shape rios do a 'maidana to broner![]()

I don't know if Rios will have the mentality to do anything significant in the sport anymore, but I wouldn't mind seeing him fight Broner or Victor Ortiz for the hell of it.
