Cowdell put up very surprisingly game and skilled effort ,Sanchez was poetry in motion a beautiful boxer with great vision and patience ,well suited to the 15 rounds and so ice cool under pressure.I remember reading in boxing news at the time ,of the accident ,tragic at just 23,how great could he have been, his fights with Danny Lopez were tremendous !

Good fight and a terrific showing from Cowdell,he was game till the last,i had Sanchez winning 145-139,a few lazy spells in the middle rounds allowing Pat to win a few rounds then some of the later rounds that Cowdell won were due to him starting to land some rights,Sanchez is beautiful to watch though the way he just glides across the ring effortlessly is a joy to watch and the right hand that put Cowdell down in the last round was explosive, really just came out of nowhere and i was surprised Pat was able to drag himself up,especially so late in the fight, that punch would've knocked some fighters out cold,it landed right on the point of the chin

Cowdell really had a great jab,it was evident in the Sanchez fight but Castanon really felt the force of it,its a jab thats fast, accurate, hurtful and most importantly busy

Cowdell - Sanchez
1. 9 - 10 - slowish start
2. 9 - 10 - couple of good bursts from Sal to take the round
3. 9 - 10 - Sanchez took half the round off, but Cowdell couldn't capitalise
4. 9 - 10 - Sanchez hasn't really got started but still just looks in control to me. Cowdells hunched stance offering a big target to the kidneys when he comes in low.
5. 10 - 9 - Cowdell did enough to take that one. Sanchez doesn't look in the mood to be honest.
6. 10 - 9 - Cowdell really growing into this. Can't help wonder when Sanchez will get started, he's better than this
7. 10 - 9 - Maybe I need to start giving Cowdell more credit, he's keeping him off with his jab, some feints and jerky movement
8. 10 - 9 - Cowdell just landing the slightly cleaner shots. Sanchez starting to show more ambition (2 minute round? wtf?)
9. 9 - 10 - Some beautiful punches from Sanchez, like someone's flicked a switch, where was this over the last 8 rounds
10. 9 - 10 - Closer round
11. 9 - 10 - Tempted to give Pat a share but he isn't having success with anything but the jab
12. 10 - 10 - Much better from both men, both going to work with both hands
13. 10 - 9 - Another decent round, more work from both. Pat edged it.
14. 10 - 9 - Pat put everything into that round, 1 more and he could be in with a realistic shout on my card.
15. 8 - 10 - Well that was fornicating heart breaking to see. Really thought Pat was close there. Great right hand and he did well to get back to his feet.
141-144 Sanchez
Good effort from Pat Cowdell, if that fight was 14 rounds long, he'd have felt hard done by losing that for what he put in.
Again though, and perhaps i'm doing a disservice to the challenger but Pat didn't look at a level, technically, to challenge a fighter of Sanchez class.
But Sanchez just seemed to cruise through the fight and Pat did everything he could to keep it close
Sanchez always looked in control and never looked hurt, flustered or out of his comfort zone. He just never seemed to get started.
They said he was a slow starter but even when he did look to get started at points, like in the 9th, he'd drop a gear again.
The punch in the final round looked like something Sanchez had in his locker all along and I wonder what would have happened if he let it go earlier.
I've seen a few Sanchez fights against greats like Azumah Nelson and Wilfredo Gomez and he's better than this IMO
But plaudits to Cowdell, a very good effort against a very good champion.

Good summary.
Regards what you said about him "gliding". I noticed on a few occasions he pursued Cowdell, with a wide stance and his feet barely moved as he covered a lot of distance, a really smooth mover as he covers the ring.
