Went to see my best friends dad last week with Alzheimer's, absolutely terrible disease. I was nearly crying when I left.

Agree with this sadly. My wifes Dad died from vascular dementia about 8 weeks ago, awful to see a human deteriorate so much.

Agree with this sadly. My wifes Dad died from vascular dementia about 8 weeks ago, awful to see a human deteriorate so much.

My mother had Alzheimer's and vascular dementia, watched her decline for 12 years before she finally succumbed, the stubborn old bat, wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy. Let's hope they find a cure soon, as it's a bloody awful way to go.

Alzheimer's is as bad as it gets in my opinion. Slowly destroys you mentally and physically. My Granddad was diagnosed in his 50s and didn't pass until he was in his late 80s. Still bossed the care home though. Just a couple of years before he died, when he didn't know any of us and could barely speak, he received a Bday card from his Nephew obviously saying Uncle Wilf on the envelope. He looked at me and my mum, looked at the nurse and said "Look...... Uncle Filth" and then sat there smiling for the rest of the visit. They were the first proper words I'd heard him speak in months.

Anyway back on topic. Ali is a don. Truly hope he's not suffering too much.

His life after boxing is like one long Thrilla in Manila. Every time he looks finished he comes surging back. The King.

Yeah, it was weird how underneath it all, my mum's personality somehow remained, she lost the power of speech, except for one key word. "No."

She was as defiant a woman as you can imagine, once knocked my dad completely unconscious with a cast iron frying pan when he decided to get a bit lairy when he came back from the pub, went through his pockets, took all of his money out of his pockets, threw his wallet away, and hung the pan back on the rack, when my dad came to, she told him he'd hit his head falling over drunk.

Alzheimer's is a terrible terrible way to go, it essentially strips a person of everything that makes them them. I wouldn't wish it on anyone having met several people with it and seeing the effects it can have.

Saying that though, doesn't Ali have Parkinson's and not Alzheimer's? Or was he diagnosed with Alzheimer's as well since?

He's really not well, brace yourselves lads.

I'm not a big fan of public outpourings of grief, and don't usually do the RIP Legend kind of stuff but Ali was a legend. Very few people truly transcend their sphere of interest but Ali did in a way that no one else has before him or probably ever will again, he was an absolute megastar of the boxing world. Sad news. RIP, Champ.
