Tyson Prime (Rooney) Would Have KO'D Evander

Let's be honest the Tyson after the 4yr layoff left behind his best days! I hated the fighting style of Tyson after his prison release no 12rd

conditioning, his chin was gone, and he threw one punch at a time, maybe two! His style was horrible! With Rooney Tyson threw 5-6 combos and

would move his head right after he would have knocked out Evander Holyfield in 8 rounds or less! Holyfield fought the watered down version of Mike

Tyson if it were the other way around with Holyfield have a 4yr absence an active Tyson would CRUSH him as well don't you think?

I think there is a very strong possibility this supposition is correct.

Your chin doesn't get weaker as you age. Besides, Tyson's chin was solid throughout his entire career. Nobody can take continous punishment from a 225 pound man and remain unaffected. The one thing that never changed about Tyson was his serious inferiority complex. As soon as he faced adversity in the ring, he would crumble. It would have happened when he was 21 if they weren't all terrified of him.

Yep. When a strong skilled man is hitting you back hard it changes everything.
Holy of 1990 was also faster if a little less strong than 96 version.
Nevetheless totally primed tyson would have been a huge threat to anybody, but holy beat him at his own game when they both still had a lot left & has a better legacy all around.

Best way to think about it is betting odds. Prime for prime, i'd have to make holy a slight favourite.

I don't think that's accurate. Think of Mercer as he aged, as an example.

Nobody gave him adversity because he kept knocking them retarded! People stepped up, though. They couldn't hang with him. Mitch Blood Green took the fight to him, Ruddock, many guys.

I think people underestimate the degree to which Holyfield psyched out Tyson, going back to their relationship in the Olympic Trials. Holyfield simply was not intimidated by him and, unlike a few other lesser fighters who were also not intimidated, Holyfield could seriously fight.

One of my favorite moments ever was the staredown between the two before their first fight, Holyfield had a look on his face like he couldn't wait for the bell to ring so he could start kicking Tyson's ass. I had never seen someone look at Tyson like that. It would be foolish to say that a younger Tyson couldn't win, he was amazingly talented. But, for me, the mental aspect cannot be overestimated, Holyfield KNEW he could give Mike hell, and he KNEW Mike would fold up when he did, that kind of knowledge going in definitely impacts a match up.

Tyson couldn't beat evander in his wildest fantasies and he knew it. Mike had no advantage in the ring with evander. Any advantage like power or maybe speed was offset by holyfields superior toughness, physical strength, technique and vastly superior ring iq. Mike couldn't beat him at any portion of their lives if they fought every 6 months from birth.

Tyson never beats Holyfield. Mentally he was not strong enough and knew evannder had the goods to beat him. Holy wasn't intimidated which affected Tyson greatly. Had they met when it was originally signed I think evannder wins on points. They knew a lot about each other.

While I agree for the most part, I'd be willing to bet Mike could've taken Evander fresh off of his heart surgery in 1994 or 1995 whenever that happened

He never had heart surgery. Wasn't Mike like 300 pounds and in jail then? Lol

Oh I thought they said something about a hole in his heart that required surgery following the Michael Moorer fight. Guess I was wrong on that. My bad.

That was just an incorrect diagnosis, he was given too much morphine. Then he went to a healer and proclaimed his heart healed. Mayo clinic backed it up.

- Sometimes even a simpleton 4 letter word "DUMB" fails to express the degree of abject stupidity found on this board.

Tyson was well into a life long mental breakdown after losing his HOF mentors that required strong, dangerous psychotropic drugs when he tangled with Field who was considered shot, but more likely experienced an overdose of PEDs against Moorer. That led him to retire with claims of a hard heart.

FACT: when Tyson was best with his HOF team, the older field was a runt only arguably winning a split against a tubby qawi, almost dying after losing some 15 claimed lbs of bodyweight and carted off to the hospital.

Net result is they met at their worst and field had better crafted his PEDs and billy goat style. Nobody ever lost so many heavy title bouts in history, nobody being a distant 2nd place.

But mike was a bully and most here obviously prey to bullies, even bully women, so, no love for Tyson, but rather a pronounced preference for effeminate non fighting TUE types and brave losers no matter their flaws.

End of the day, the sheer genius of HOFers Cus, Jacobs, and cayton polishing the most formidable natural talent into such a wrecking machine will never be equaled with all do deference to other greats who could never match the team genius that briefly surrounded young tyson.

Focused Evander has ATG chin and will. Definitely top 5.
Let's stop acting like no one went the distance with Iron Mike.
Evander could have done it too.

With Rooney, Tyson had a more focused attack.
He would have went to the body.
But Evander would have stood in and landed back.
Evander would have taken Tyson into the deep rounds.
Unlike Tyson's other opponents, Evander would have ended the fight with more energy.
He would probably win the 12th big.

Close decision to Tyson.

Not at all... Holyfield knocks Tyson out at ANY time... He was just stronger, faster, more skilled and more durable... Holy finessed Mike. Rooney was a terrible trainer anyway.. If I guy's real good his teachings stay with your.. I've never talked to any boxer who thought Rooney was on a par with Steward, Futch, Mayweather, Eddie Mustafa Muhammad etc. I think D'Amato was good ... and Jacobs had a strong understanding of Boxing fundamentals and tactics. I believe those guys helped Mike, and obviously they died and that was a loss for him.
