Seen both these fights countless times so i think i'll leave it this week, its been a struggle trying to fit watching these fights and the supplentary fights too as im working through my own list of classics,a lot of 15 rounders as well
There isnt much to say about the 1st fight that hasnt already been said regarding "Enry's Ammer" and the ripped glove myth,i read it was delayed for like 10 minutes before when really a minute seems closer to the truth, either way Clay was hurt and anything extra would have been a godsend at that point, what i didnt know until recently was that the gloves werent even actually replaced at all so who knows what to believe,i read Ali's autobiography about 10 years ago and cant remember the real conclusion
The rematch same as the 1st fight when an already tough task for Cooper was let down by his tendency to bleed like a bastard, what i will say though that in both fights Henry was boxing well for spells,i'd have expected Ali to stop him legit in the later rounds though but who knows?

Cooper would've been knocked out through loss of vision in the end, but he was tough enough to stand up to a beating until then, so it was good refereeing in my opinion. It says in the first video that Ali's gloves weren't replaced, but since Dundee's tampering extended the interval, you'd imagine they were taped up before the fight was allowed to recommence.
Groves reminds me of Cooper a bit to look at, and Henry was only a stone or so heavier. That was some power he had for his size.
As a side note, a lot of those guys from the small-glove era didn't seem to suffer as much brain damage in later life.

Cooper vs Ali 1
1. 10 - 9 - Cooper. Ali looking to come out and ease into this fight with smooth boxing and Henry hammered him with that left hook, A 21 year old Ali was naive and too quick to moan about holding and spoiling, Coopers tactics had him rattled early
2. 9- 10 - Ali edged it with some really quick jabs. Cooper landed some heavy blows but made a lot of crude swings.
3. 10 - 9 Cooper. Ali did very little other than clowning. Cut looks bad for Cooper
4. 10 - 8 Cooper - It's no secret that Coopers left hand, particularly the hook was a fantastic weapon. To see it land so regularly and effectively against a young fresh version of arguably the quickest and slickest heavyweight in history really hammers that message home. Fantastic punch for the knockdown
5. Stoppage on cuts - Not sure about the 'cut glove' but there's no doubt Coopers eye was a mess, so no argument about the stoppage. What I will say is the response from Ali, from the second he left his stool in that 5th rounds was miraculous. He went back to his corner at the end of the 4th, looking like he didn't know where he was. Right from the start of the 5th, he landed sweet lefts and right hands at will on Cooper, that's some turn around and testament to the great man.
Coopers performance, up until the end of the 4th was excellent and his tactics were spot on. That left hook he had was one of the best shots in boxing!
Fast, accurate, heavy and well timed. In these 4 rounds alone, he used it to lead and to counter, as a single shot and in combination and it seemed to damage every time it landed, which was often, more often than he would have been expected to land against Ali.
