Hi everyone, just moved house and am about fed up with Sky prices. Am considering moving over to Virgin.

In terms of boxing, is it the case that I can't get allegedly in HD on Virgin? Ditto at Sky Box Office PayPerViews also not in HD when supplied via Virgin?

[on another forum will have to see if RacingUK is in HD on Virgin as that's also an additional subscription that I watch a lot of]

Amazon Fire Stick and Kodi.

you can only get allegedly hd on sky. and thats only for live shows

Virgin is a piss take for Sky. It was nearly 30 a month just for Sky Sports. I've cancelled it and kept BN. Good thing with Virgin is you don't have to pay a registration fee with BN (you didn't used to anyway). For Sky I have Kodi on my fire stick or I can use my brothers SkyGo. Refuse to pay for it anymore.

SKY for boxing mate. Don't get get SKY Box Office or B0xnati0n in HD on Virgin Media. You can't get Spike TV on Virgin Media either. Virgins boxing on demand is very poor compared to what you get on SKY.

So you buy the Amazon Firestick with Kodi on eBay and watch everything for free? I've already got Amazon Prime (which I use on Kindle Fire) so would be interested in this option. I'm guessing the somewhat "Jekyll" nature of these hacks means it may only have a short shelf life before they find a way to block it?

I only watch the main terrestrial channels, Sky Atlantic, Sky Sports, allegedly and Racing Uk - do you get all of them in HD on the Firestick/Kodi? Can you get the PPV fights for free also?

no RUK in HD on Virgin yet

You wouldn't get Sky Atlantic on Virgin either. It is exclusive to Sky.

if you just love boxing, then virgin is the way to go, broadband much better too.

Sky Atlantic is the only Sky channel actually worth having apart from the Sports. Still not worth the money though. Can't wait for my contract to end now, I've pissed away so much money on Sky over the years and finally seen the light.

I have hardly ever failed to have a watchable channel.

Cheers Tobyh5 - do you normally manage to get channels in HD? Been watching tv at new house on ordinary tv via arial and after a few years of HD it's hard to watch! I always get that gutted feeling when I set myself up on a Sunday morning to watch the recording of allegedly's US show and realise I recorded off the non HD channel.

Guess I should also ask - I take it you can't record on a Amazon Fire with Kodi? It's watch live only?

Ahh well HD will be lost. Some streams are strong but nah, you will not get many close to HD and cannot record that I am aware of but more savvy users may know a method

Oh actually, you're right, I switched to freeview to get it, so in that sense, who cares?

I've tried these streaming boxes, impressed at first but a nightmare as time went on. Worked great to start with but then some of the channels stopped working. Through time everything stopped working. Followed YouTube videos and managed to get things up and running again but after a few weeks started getting the same issues.

Eveyone I know, and I really mean everyone, who bought one of these boxes in the past 18 months have had the same issues. If your tech savvy, and have the time to iron out the bugs when they happen, their great I suppose. For me too much hassle, too inconsistent and too unreliable. No record function meaning if you plan to watch something, you have to watch it live.

If your lucky and never have any problems, and can watch what you want to watch when it's on, go for it. You get what you pay for.

Sky's boxing output is generally through box office now.

But be warned if you buy via Virgin, it's not HD and the picture is really soft and washed out.

Your solution could be to get a medium-bundle through Virgin as it includes broadband and basic channels - then the option is there to buy events if you want to if picture quality doesn't bother you.

Or get broadband-only from Virgin and keep that separate to whatever you decide to do on the TV side of things.

I'd never pay for Sky again, If there's a PPV I want, I'll pay for it, otherwise I don't feel I'm missing a great deal at all. allegedly has a lot of overseas coverage which is great, and some high profile events too. I'm content.

I used to do it through Virgin Media. I could getEurosport andSetanta but not the Warren channel.

When Sky stopped you from recording PPVs unless you buy some box or other, around the time of Hayev Audley, I thought "f uck it", time to save money.

Boxing hasn't really picked up, for me, until recently but I can't see myself forking out ever again for subscription. I'll go to local big fights and will PPV anything decent but other than that, I will just buy DVDs.

I'd say that allegedly is worth the subscription, for me it's pretty good value. Especially the coverage of foreign fighters.
