Does Boxrec censor certain opinions?

I tried to comment on the following thread about Ali and I found it to be "locked".....
http://boxrec.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=22&t=201275
I was just curious why this happened. The thread seemed to be a bit contentious but nothing like some of the beauties that the Current Scene forum has been witness to. Though this thread might have been a bit more politically slanted than others. I understand that we come from different locales and have different standards for freedom of expression & that we are not guaranteed any expression rights on Boxrec or the internet in general. But I also believe that we are a community of like-minded individuals here and I would simply like to know what kind of (if any) censorship the mods practice here? I have found the moderators here to be exceptionally fair & well rounded in their dealings. I have never had any issues but wonder if anybody else has? I have no problem whatsoever with the censoring of abuse, harassment, incitement, etc on the forums but I would be concerned if the moderators banned us from speaking on a subject altogether because they did not approve of the topic or because they did not approve of the view a majority of members were taking on the topic. This is first thread I have come across that was locked instead of moved, ignored, or simply been intervened upon by mods. The fact that posters were calling it trash and thought it should be deleted is what is worrisome. Locking a thread because some members found it incendiary is a terrible precedent to start. I would appreciate any insight you guys might have.

first time i heard this....
but after all, who cares. the family of ali wanted those persons, so be it.
only thing that i dont like is that an actor like will smith, who ali had litle to do with was around and no alis brother, who was like one of his closest persons he knew. but women always had a great talent for breaking familys appart or sepperating cousins from cousins, brother from brothers, best friends from best friends. they so egomaniac, i can sing a song about it.

Smith spent a lot of time with Ali before he portrayed him. He was there for a reason.

Not sure, but It's possible that the thread you were accessing was routed through a server located in one of the
republics of the former Soviet Union. Apparently some remnants of censorship exist there, and can affect the threads.

Aside from the thread being generally idiotic, the OP apparently posted the same post in other forums word-for-word and there was plenty of discussion over there. It's possible that a mod felt that if you're spamming the same question all over the internet, that you aren't really seeking an answer, you're just trying to be provocative.
But in general, boxrec censors virtually not a single thing. It's seriously complete bedlam in here. We've seen arguments between 2 posters run-up 17 pages on a thread about Pacquiao or Mayweather. We have posters like bnovelist who are completely obvious trolls, post nothing but troll garbage, and have still kept their accounts open for like a decade. The excessively light touch of moderation is part of what makes boxrec kind of a sh*thole. But I can pretty much vouch for it as not being overly censored.

Yes, clearly you're qualified to speak for Ali. He was a human being, dork, professions don't detail friendships and blood can be paper thin. Go forbid something happened to you and every pallbearer was required to know nothing about boxing.

It was a stupid thread.
FWIW, I think a lot more threads should be locked or deleted.

Not censure. It's about relevance.
Current scene: clue is in the name.
Discussing the merits of Ali's Pallbearers is irrelevant but if you reeeeeally need to discuss such a trivial thing then take it to 'off topic'.

It's Ali's family's choice. What has it to do with anyone else?

It doesn't matter. It was in Ali's will so Ali chose Smith himself.

This is the point I'm making! Who cares what the thread is about. If it isn't on topic, the mods will move it, if it's blatantly inciteful, the mods will warn the poster and suspend him if necessary. If it's a useless, pointless thread, nobody will pay any attention to it and it will barely be noticed........
But this is the f##king attitude that pisses me off! So Lenny, you think more threads should be locked or deleted? YOU? Are you that self absorbed? Lenny, who gives a f##k what you want? Because Lenny is a sensitive soul the entire forum needs to be censored? Without freedom of speech, there is rule by decree, by fiat. It all starts with freedom of speech. Why do you think you are the sole arbiter of righteous conversation? Obviously you do not live in a place that has freedom of expression. In certain countries you can be put in jail for disagreeing/speaking out against certain groups. And that came to be because of people like you who don't understand that those who censor today will themselves be censored tomorrow. Every single person is offended by something, if we all had your attitude we would be mutes. Thankfully the moderators on boxeec are not tyrannical dictators and allow us free discussion. You think that thread was stupid? Well stay off it then! The world does not revolve around your feelings Lenny. With all due respect, sincerely.
After re-reading this I have become aware that it was overly harsh. I apologize to Lenny for that. It sounds disrespectful and I did not intend to be disrespectful. Sincerely - Tommy

I think you should be banned. This is a forum not a constitutional right. The success of the discussion forum is based upon the quality of its contributors. If your contribution isn't relevant, and frankly garbage, then it should be binned The bin is where you belong. Neither the original thread, or your whinging about it being locked are relevant in a forum concerning the sport of boxing's "current scene".

Yes of course you do Ricky, because you can't handle a different opinion than your own. You're a typical European crybaby. I'm the one whinging? No, I am making a cogent point backed with my reasons. What are you doing? Not making any valid point that's for certain. "The success of the discussion forum is based upon the quality of it's contributors" - Your quote. So you just backed up my point. You let the members make their contributions, that is what allows the thread to stand on it's own. But you think it shouldn't even be given a chance, it should be banned right away. Did you put any thought into your opinion? Or did you just blurt it out hoping it fits your narrative? It doesn't. You are not the sole arbiter of moral judgement, you do not get to decide anything. The community decides. Your opinion is that the community should not have any right to decide what they want to discuss, that a handful of righteous superiors should decide right & wrong for an entire community. "This is a forum, not a constitutional right" [sic] -Another quote of yours, I acknowledged this very point in my OP. When you give your opinion you should at least back it up with why you believe it to be true. Ideally you would back it up with facts and not your feelings. Don't be terrified of other views Ricky. I don't want to ban you because you're a self righteous little brat, I want to discuss all topics.

I am not new Tiny and I am not a troll. I hardly ever post an original topic and last time I did, it was about all these trolls having pissing contests about nonsense. I understand that we come from different places and we hold different views but there is no reason to be banning or censoring posts because we disagree with them. We are all adults here and should be able to handle grown up discussions. If you want to call me a twat or a moron, then that's what you do. I don't understand why you would want to outright ban me because I am coming from a different angle? That makes no sense to me. I am not being abusive or inciting, why should my opinion not be allowed?

Some people are very snippety if you don't agree with EVERYTHING they say.
Some people only root for boxers of a certain skin pigmentation.
This is to be expected.
At the risk of sounding like I'm kissing ass, the moderators overall do a pretty good job here.
I don't know if something should be censored for having an absurd opinion such as Wilt beating Ali, because where would you draw the line?
