These guys have the opportunity to build up there historic status and your only seeing these young guys still in there 20's fighting once a year.The only promoters i can give credit to is Bob Arum and Golden Boy Promtions,there always setting dates for there fighters that still in there youth,to fight.A lot of other Boxing Promoting companies are not,I truthfully would say,that some of these young fighters should take advantage of what they can,while there still young.

Piss poor management is the only possible explanation. I've never really understand why these guys even fight just 3 or 4 times a year. I'd think you'd wanna get it while the getting is good and fight up to 5 or 6 times a year while you're still prime. Taking into account longer breaks following particularly grueling bouts of course.

Not only young fighters.... whole boxing world had this i-felt-to-sleep-tll-fight-happens-problem.

In Heavyweight..we musst wait 3 Years to see 1-2 "5 Star" Fights

When a boxer stay in shape..had no injuries...6 weeks prepairing for an opponent is enough.
4 - 5 Fights in a year is easily possible.
Look back in past...80s...70's
Mike Tyson knocks out 15 Fighter in 1985...13 goes on canvas in 1986...

It's the whole money promotion big event making thing around ..boxing goes so slowly.
When a big event stays....all waiting long time for this...upps..injury or someone took special "Medicine"...Fight called off...wait another year.

because they don't have to/need to, boxers fought more often in the past out of necessity but they more savvy these days when it comes to the business side of the sport and are much more aware of the long term effects of getting punched in the head

...a little bit exaggerating I'll say: you pay them 3 times less, they'll fight 3 times more often...

At the higher end of the sport there simply aren't the TV dates and associated demand.

At the lower levels, not enough people buy tickets for these guys to box more often.

The most fights i have seen a fighter get in year are 4 to 5 fights and some fighters in there prime are fighting 2 to 3 fights in the year, this shouldn't be.If there still in the gym training and still fresh & capable of fighting,If you look at Floyd Mayweather's resume in the year's of the late 2000's an early 2000's he was fighting only twice a year are maybe even three.It should only take 4,5,are 6 weeks for a fighter,to have a date to fight.

I'd say a combination of boxing not being anywhere near as popular as it was meaning less t.v dates,smaller crowds in general,very little free coverage,especially in the UK,really a whole lot of issues combined means less shows.When i first got interested in boxing in the early 80s there were several shows on per week and they were all available to watch on free t.v.

That's a good question. Boxing is a very dangerous business that can have life altering consequences if you roll the dice too many times. For that reason I understand the hesitancy to push the envelope. But this appears to be an unprecedented lack of action for prime fighters. And I don't believe it's for the health reasons I formerly mentioned. I think the promoters have their own best interests in mind and not their fighters. They certainly believe in creating a mystique in a single fighter and protecting that aura. Instead of growing a fighter's reputation they want to milk what they already have. For them it's better to have a half dozen fighters who have the interest of the boxing world than to have one or two proven ones who garner all the attention. I think this is explained perfectly by understanding the career of Prince Naseem Hamed. Real fans knew that he wasn't the fighter that they were selling us, but it didn't matter. 90% of us bought into his mystique. Promoters & HBO laughed all the way to the bank with A+++ earnings from their B+ fighter.

$ is the easy answer. Ray Robinson would have fought twice a year too. The pbc guys are screwed because al is running out of other people's money.

World treaties and New Energy Sources are faster work than setting up title fights.

Countless months of negotiation and purse bids followed by nonstop drug tests.

Fans are supposed to be happy that a fight is moved from Russia to Alabama and the new opponent is 30 pegs lower.

Of course money is part of the problem, but its a combination of bad and greedy management.
