Both very significant bouts. But it depends a lot on how you gauge ''important."

Ali vs Frazier, the Fight of the Century was pretty important. As were some of Jack Johnson's fights over 100 years ago.

Those 2 are a great call for significance. Also Johnson over Burns.

Ali over Frazier on 3/8/71 is also up there. It kind of said, "Not yet."

I think you have to list both Schmeling/Louis fights!
-The first one must have been heartbreaking for Americans and we know how the NAZIs used that as propaganda.
-The second one was a great redemption for us (America) and for African Americans in particular. The second fight is meaningless without the first
-Hagler/Hearns
-Finally, I understand my view is very Ameri-centric and others won't necessarily see things as I do. That said, I have to go with Johnson/Jeffries (1910) because that had a similiar impact on African Americans. It was such a different time back then and Blacks were not considered to be on par with White folks in any arena. Now I'm not trying to make a statement, this is boxing not politics but in America, race relations have always been front & center, it's a profound issue & I believe those fights shaped the future fabric of America.

Great topic. I was surprised. I thought you only posted to f##k with people.

Whoa Nellie!. .
Hold on there Pardner!
Wait just a dull garn minute!

I thought this was a current scene boxing forum. . the average age here is 25 years old with memories that do not go back farther from Oscar De La Hoya. For years everything has been only about Mayweather and Pacquiao and nothing else in the history of boxing mattered.

So why aren't the biggest victories EVER Mayweather over Oscar, Pacquiao beating Oscar and Floyd's victory over Manny. . . It seems to be logical thinking.

Ali Foreman was a David vs Goliath type story. When Ali upset Foreman, it inspired the world and made everyone discuss boxing for all the right reasons. So good that fight happened especially in the time it happened.
