Boxing's Greatest Chin Goes To Pro Wrestling

That's right people. Nobody in boxing could do it. Not Lucas Browne, not Odlanier Solis, not Alexander Ustinov, not any of the 59 HW Boxers who tried could do it, nobody could knock Chauncy Welliver down. George Chuvalo 501 straight HW rounds without going down. Oliver McCall 428 straight HW rounds without going down. Chauncy Welliver 421 straight HW rounds without going down. The chins that are as big as chins get and cannot be broken by any men who ever laced up the gloves in pro boxing.

Now Pro Wrestling's Kevin Sullivan and his partners will try. That's right. Chauncy Welliver will be tangling with the NWA Champions in his very first Pro Wrestling match. In a 6 man tag team match The NWA Pacific Northwest Heavyweight Champion "The Lost Sullivan" Buddy Highway, The NWA Continental Heavyweight Champion Badd Blood and the NWA Legend "The Taskmaster" Kevin Sullivan will be forming "The New Dungeon of Doom" to take on Chauncy "Boxing's Greatest Chin" Welliver, The Honky Tonk Man and NWA Heritage HW Champion Dave "Havoc Hollenbeck.

Chauncy Welliver in the same ring with the Honky Tonk Man, Kevin Sullivan and all the current NWA Champions! July 17th in Portland is where the most epic pro wresling debut of all time will take place. We will all have to wait and see if Pro Wrestling can generate the man Pro Boxing never could. The man that is great enough to finally knock Chauncy Welliver down. :brick:

It looks to me like he has risen to the greatest heights possible for him. He did it! What no boxer alive could do! He knocked Chauncy Welliver down! He made the impossible possible. He foretold it at the beginning of the match and it came true. Honky Tonk Man Is The Greatest Of All Time! Greater than Olympic Gold Medalist Odlanier Solis. Greater than WBA HW Champion Lucas Browne. Greater than Alexander Ustinov. And greater than every boxer on this planet today! Long Live The Honky Tonk Man. :brick:

Here's one of Boxing's noted chins... a guy who could absorb massive punishment and needed to do so... showing off a few boxing moves to WWE fans.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YalhAclq9y4 ... The lesson??? No pointing, pouting, or pooting. I wonder how much that rassling gig paid Ali.

As Chauncy has said. He didn't lose, he was cheated by his partner. And even though Honky Tonk Man did the impossible, my wrestling intel says there was a foreign object in the gloves to help him do it. Honky cheated and had to jump his own partner to do the impossible. Ali gets straight up whooped by Gorilla Monsoon 1 on 1. There is no way Gorilla would have been able to do that to Welliver. He would have went down harder than Thunder Lips did against Rocky. :brick:

He was pretty awful to begin with. I like the way he couldn't figure out which hand the boxing glove goes on. Plus, talk about not selling that KO punch, my sister throws a better right hand than that.

The guy that took the KO punch sold the sh1t out of it.. that's for sure.

After watching this, you really appreciate the talent of the guys on WWE.

Chauncy is a good fit for wrestling and I don't mean that in a bad way at all. He certainly has the size, intelligence, sense of humor and toughness.

Wish him well.

Kevin Sullivan and the Honky Tonk Man are legends of pro wrestling but they are both well past their primes in terms of performing. They would both be much better suited today to being managers and skit writers. The whole premise of this match was actually very well written. The execution of the premise was a bit lacking. Even the Shake Rattle And Roll finisher of the Honky Tonk Man was done without much to it. I don't know if that was a Havoc error or what but that finisher was not supposed to look like that. Honky also should have really hauled off on Welliver and Havoc with the KO punches. The crowd reacted well to what he did but it was done pretty weakly. He should have known that Welliver can take the best punches in the world and walk right through them so hitting him flush with a glove on is no big deal to do to him in a wrestling match.

Because of the crowd noise I couldn't really get everything they were doing in the speaking portion after the match. The portion before the match was more audible and I think Chauncy and Honky did pretty well there to set up what would be the finish of the match. When they snatched up the WBC titles at the end that was pretty cool to go along with Honky dropping the big man for the first time ever with the gloves. If they had the chance to perform this match a few more times I think the execution of it would improve and that crowds would enjoy the skit. Badd Blood saying This Is My House was a good tagline for facing a boxer. I think you could get a pro wrestling crowd going with the Boxing Sucks chants pretty easy for a wrestler using the boxing angle. Chauncy can definitely bring some enjoyment to the fans through the angle he brings into wrestling. And he has lots of other angles he could use going forward. We've all seen how his weight and build has been used against him in boxing circles to make him the butt of jokes over the years. He could definitely sell that angle through the roof. I think a crowd would go crazy for Welliver playing the insecure angle with his body. Him refusing to take off his shirt and mentally breaking down after opponentss rip it off him in the ring would be very crowd pleasing. I could see the chant of Moobs Moobs Moobs. Show Us Your Tits! All kinds of things could be played off this angle and really bring enjoyment to the people. And that's what it is all about...entertaining the crowd. They love angles like that even when they are simple things to do like Rikishi rubbing his arse in the face of his opponents. The Bushwackers rubbing their opponents heads in their armpits. I could see Welliver selling a lot of merchandise to crowds that want to torment him with the stuff as an insecure character. Do something with a bra and lable it DOUBLE W size. During the match the crowd goes crazy for exposing him topless and then at the end of the match after the other guys finishing move they can chant Put On Teh Bra..Put On The Bra..Put On The Bra, until the opponent puts it on him. Then he wakes up and freaks out about it and the crowd goes wild again. You gotta use what you have in the wrestling business and Chauncy has a lot of tools at his disposal. Since he is a big man slamming him would also be a big feat and crowd pleaser for guys strong enough to do it. I was hoping that Buddy Highway was going to try it in this match as he looked like the only guy who might be capable of putting him up and down for a big slam. Goes going for the slam and failing at it would be another angle he could use in matches. The old Andre The Giant and Hulk Hogan slam gimmicks. He also has the perfect body to use the super splash in the corner on guys. As his wrestling skills improve he could morph into all kinds of characters. To begin with though, he has more tools and gimmicks to use than pretty much any other entry level wrestlers. Even at the level of WWE it wouldn't take much for him to become a crowd pleaser. He could put over a lot of wrestlers right now with what he has and get the crowds to go crazy over it. WWE has turned many men starting with much less into superstars. This is a guy with all the size and toughness needed to succeed in the sport, all kinds of angles to entertain, and an absolutely legit record from boxing to bring with him. WBC and WBO #5 rated HW in the world, never knocked down in 421 rounds, holding regional titles all over the world, and doing against a very high level of competition. Some guy above asked who he has fought and dogged on his level of competiton. That is bullshit man. When you fight Olympic Gold Medalist HW boxers and World HW Champion boxers like Solis and Browne, there is not much higher you can go than that. There was a reason guys like Shannon Briggs and David Tua never took matches with Welliver even though he hounded them for fights for years. They didn't want to look bad against Chauncy and knew their power would not be enough to put him down. Everybody saw what happen to the hyped up Solis in Germany on the Vitali Klitschko comeback card when all the great HW Champions were in the house, Chauncy made him look so bad on just 2 weeks notice that the ref had to jump in and save Solis from the embarrasment of not being able to put him down. It was the worst stoppage in the history of boxing and a very underhanded move to do to a guy who has never been dropped. Chauncy was a very avoided HW Boxer after that because of his body style and ability to take every punch in the world without going down. His body held him back in boxing as far as opportunities go but in wrestling his body can become a big asset towards getting opportunities in that sport.

Vince McMahon....if you build him up....they will come. WWE Welliver Mania is only 1 phone call away from becoming a reality. He's the prefect guy to take on Brock Lesnar for the MMA vs Boxing angle. Best 2 out of 3 in Boxing, MMA and Wrestling. The whole world would love to see Chauncy beat the living shit out of Lesnar over 4 rounds of HW Boxing...if Brock Lesnar could even last 4 rounds with him.....a very big if. Get R Done Vince. The WWE Universe is so incomplete without Welliver in the house. You could remedy this situation with 1 phone call. Brock Lesnar....what you gonna do after 4 rounds or less of Chauncy Welliver bitch smacking you? :brick:

East Texas in the Arklatex area.

I got into it after years of following the sport and even going through wrestling school years ago.
I've wrestled I've managed I've promoted wrestling.
Now I'm old so I do color commentary.
It's easier on the body. But still a ton of fun

It looks more authentic to me than plenty of boxing matches I've seen (like David Haye's comeback fights for instance).

Kevin Sullivan is "Still The Same" like the Bob Seger song.

Lets shake hands and then a kick to the groin. Classic

I didn't know he was that old. I saw him about 25-26 years ago at Cobo Arena in Detroit. Hulk Hogan vs Kamala was the main event. I know Hogan won but I can't remember if Honky won that night or not.

Him being 63 and doing the impossible of knocking Chauncy Welliver down with boxing gloves on just goes to show how true the old adage is of It's The One You Don't See Coming That Hurts You. There was a lot of moral in Welliver's wrestling debut like that. Watch your back. With friends like that you don't need enemies. Keep your friends close and enemies closer. Money can't buy everything. Age is just a number for Honky Tonk Man.
