It would be a huge joke if this fight doesn't happen.

Kell needs to take this fight .....end of. It's a straight forward win in my opinion and I think it can set up bigger things

The plot thickens.

Should Brook just bite the bullet and fight Vargas anyway?

Depends on how much less he is getting.

This is obviously PPV, but Brook doesn't sell that well. If Hearn is paying Vargas/Top Rank $2 million plus and Brook similar what's going to be left for the undercard?

I smell a stinker in terms of the bill overall, hopefully i'm wrong.

It needs a huge back up card. Kell-Vargas is not big enough, nowhere near. I think they're paying Vargas way too much.

As ye sow so shall ye reap

Did he not realize or did nobody point out to him that lining up overmatched unheard of opponents to knock over is not the way to build your profile with the general sporting public and thus enhance your future earnings.

It's all well and good chasing after another alphabet title whilst claiming he wants to unify the division but attracting a world champion over to the UK to defend his title will always come at a premium. Kell should've had this fight in USA and built his profile over there, that's where the big money fights await him if he wants them.

The more shenanigans there are surrounding Brook's fight negotiations the more it looks like his intense desire to fight Khan is nothing other than a retirement fund fight. His ambition is questionable.

Whilst it's not unreasonable for Kell to want more than the challenger, we must equally agree that to tempt over American fighters it requires much deeper pockets.

It sounds like a stalemate to me.

It's difficult doing concrete deals when you can only 'forecast' how well it will do at the box office on the night. All the numbers are based around a conservative estimate as to how much the gate and box office will take on the night.

It can be a catch 22 if the headliners and the interested parties like the TV and promoter expect a certain amount from the event - it can sometimes leave the kitty dry to put on a terrific undercard.

As others have stated, this show will require an undercard. The main event appeals to me, but I'm not the general public.

Maybe they work out a performance bonus % based on the actual sales for everyone to be content.

Brook should just be thankful that Hearn has been able to find him an opponent after being 'avoided' by every other decent name in the division

Is it money, names or titles that Brook is after?
Doesnt seem Eddie and Kell are on the same page.
I think Kell should go back to Khan and beg him for the 30-70 offer of PPV he was made from Khans team...

To be a fair I think if Hearn made this fight he only, needs 1 decent undercard domestic fight and most Will be happy. Eg Whyte v Allen or Eubank v Etches.

The title of the article is extremely misleading.

How are they "at odds"?

I don't know many who'll pay £17 for Brook-Vargas.

+1 - it would take a proper undercard, i.e. 50/50 matchups rather than 'names' for me to spend that on this fight, and I would consider myself more hardcore than casual. Risky move from Brook, if true.

None of the casuals even know who brook is, and even a lot of boxing fans wouldn't pay a PPV for that fight.

Would fall flatter than a transsexuals pre-op chest.

They're both world champions, this is not a champion/challenger situation. Why should Kell automatically earn more, there's much less risk on his part.

I'm guessing Camp Eddie has asked him to take less if he wants the fight.

As SNG alluded to, not sure how Brook can expect more than Vargas when he's also a world champion and is defending his belt away from home and I'd imagine is the underdog with the bookies.

Brook needs to realise this fight is meant as a launch pad for him to get the bigger fights.

Well wouldn't it be a surprise if the ever-burgeoning career of Kell Brook hit a roadblock?

The way some of you go on, you'd think he's been treading water for years.

This won't do well on PPV brook is an excellent technically gifted fighter but nobody really has any affection for him. He doesn't have an engaging personality or loyal following. It will be a very very tough sell as a PPV.

Not necessarily in relation to being technically gifted, but he reminds me up to the 25-28 fight mark of Carl Froch - clearly world class, personality/arrogance that doesn't necessarily make people tune in....
Difference being Froch then did things the hard way, going anywhere and fighting everyone he could probably for relatively poor money/audiences. But his willingness to be in a proper scrap against top opposition and risk his record won through.
Kell could take a leaf out of his book. Look long term, get the fights for less than what you think you're worth. I do believe he's good enough to win more than he loses at World level and so think his career and earnings would grow massively if he was to take a hit financially for a couple of fights and travel.

It seems like it's just the usual suspects lining up to attack Brook over nothing.

That is interesting. The fight seems to be getting pushed further and further back. It will be about 6 months from when fought Bizier by the time the fight comes around.

The fact that this is in the public domain is a bad sign - I am a bit old fashioned in that I think that these kind of things should be kept in the family behind closed doors.

Brook needs to be careful - he isn't the draw that he thinks he is and Eddie might get fed up and jib him off.

The big money fight is with Khan and as this is not looking likely why would Eddie accept the aggro and take financial risks that are unlikely to be repaid?
